This vacancy is open to external applicants and employees of the City of Johannesburg The Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is an entity of the City of Johannesburg that operates Joburg Theatre (Braamfontein), Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatres in order to provide the integrated management of world class theatre venues and a high quality entertaining, innovative and inclusive programme which serves diverse communities.

Salary Range: R45,213.14 (basic salary excluding benefits)

Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Provide written and legal opinions and legal advice, at the request of and to the entity on aspects of the law to heads of departments, executive management and board committees ● Research and provide sound legal advice on compliance with relevant laws and regulations ● Provide legal advice to the Bid Adjudication Committee; the Bid Specification and Bid Evaluation Committees in accordance with the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 56 of 2003 and relevant legislation applicable to supply chain management and procurement processes ● Act as the company’s in-house legal advisor by collaborating with the Company Secretary in devising effective and efficient defences in litigation/potentially litigious matters ● Draft contracts and agreements in compliance with statutory requirements ● Identify legal risks in all contractual obligations by JCT and develop effective mitigation strategies for the business ● Originate and review legally binding contracts and agreements, ensuring that they are in compliance will all statutory and legal requirements ● Draft and comment on agreements, i.e. Lease agreements; Service level agreements and other contractual documents. 
● Participate in contract negotiations to ensure JCT secures optimal arrangements in respect of any and all contracts it enters into ● Contracts management ● Lead compliance programs and policies in ethics management by conducting/facilitating fraud prevention workshops and fraud prevention initiatives. ● Risk identification, management and implementation of mitigation actions ● Advise EXCO on the latest developments in legislation, international standards for governance and provide assurance that the company’s governance framework adequately satisfies the social, economic, environmental, financial and ethical expectations of the environment in which the company operates ● Organise and manage proper induction and orientation of Board members to make them aware of their legal duties of skill, care and diligence, the Company’s and the Group’s policies in order to fully & effectively capacitate them as the accounting authority of the company ●. Report writing and drafting resolutions of various oversight bodies in the company. ● Receive summons subpoenas and notices of motion as an example and to review, assess as well as take appropriate steps with regard to legal processes. ● Attending at court as and when required ● Review company policies to identify any legal risks for JCT and advice on the re-wording thereof ● Prepare legal briefs and liaise with external lawyers, where relevant to ensure all legal matters are dealt with and resolved in the best interest of JCT ● Ensure compliance with relevant legislation in line with objectives to be achieved.
 
Appointment Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Law (NQF Level 7) ● Minimum of 6 years’ practical legal experience ● Admission as an attorney ●Experience in managing multiple, diverse service functions with a strong supervisory and team leadership skills ● Experience in compiling and managing budgets ● Good verbal and written communication skills ● Computer literacy.
