CHIEF COLLECTIONS MANAGER - COLLECTIONS & DIGITISATION DEPARTMENT - INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT
Basic Salary: R549 000.81 per annum, plus benefits
 
Requirements: Degree in social sciences or natural sciences or art or data analytics or equivalent Ÿ Ideal: Master’s or Ph.D. qualification and at least 5 years relevant experience in museum practice relating to Digital Management of Collections Ÿ At least 10 years’ experience in data management and digitisation Ÿ Valid Code EB Driver’s licence Ÿ Membership of relevant professional associations for example SA Museum Association, ICOM (International Council of Museums) Ÿ Leadership and Management experience Ÿ In depth collection management and digitisation knowledge Ÿ Programme and Project Management experience Programme and Project Management experience Ÿ Comprehensive understanding of current digital and museum practices, methodologies, and resources needed to support collection management Ÿ Advance knowledge of databases design and management Ÿ People Management Ÿ Financial Management and experience in development and monitoring of Budgets Ÿ Intermediate level computer literacy in MS Office and any Project management programme Ÿ Senior Management Report-writing Ÿ Ability to read, write, analyse and interpret scientific and technical journals, construction documents, financial reports, and legal documents Ÿ Networking, in particular crossinstitutional collaboration Ÿ Multi-lingual in South African languages

Requirements: Degree in conservation or equivalent Ÿ Ideal: Master’s or Ph.D. qualification Ÿ At least 10 years’ experience of conservation management of which 5 years should be at management level with a demonstrated track record of competence and success Ÿ Valid Code EB Driver’s licence Ÿ Membership of relevant professional associations for example SA Museum Association, ICOM (International Council of Museums), Arkeological Association Ÿ Leadership and Management experience Ÿ In depth conservation management and digitisation knowledge Ÿ Programme and Project Management experience Ÿ Comprehensive understanding of current conservation and museum practices, methodologies, and resources needed to support collection care and treatment Ÿ Advance knowledge of chemical and physical properties of conservation material and deterioration processes Ÿ People Management Ÿ Financial Management and experience in development and monitoring of Budgets Ÿ Intermediate level computer literacy in MS Office and any Project management programme Ÿ Senior Management Report-writing Ÿ Ability to read, write, analyse and interpret scientific and technical journals, construction documents, financial reports, and legal documents Ÿ Networking, in particular cross-institutional collaboration Ÿ Multi-lingual in South African languages.

Requirements: Batchelors degree on Conservation Ÿ Ideal: Batchelor of Honours degree in a relevant field and experience in museum practice relating to Conservation Ÿ 5 years’ experience as a conservator in the field Ÿ Valid Code EB Driver’s licence Ÿ Membership of relevant professional associations for example SA Museum Association, ICOM (International Council of Museums), Arkeological Association Ÿ Planning and budgeting experience.
 
Key Responsibilities include: Conservation Management Ÿ Access to Collections Ÿ Acquisition of collections Ÿ Research/ and or interpretation Ÿ Departmental Risk- and Disaster Management Ÿ People Management Ÿ Maintain and preserve existing collections Ÿ Recommend conservation plan in the acquisition of collection Ÿ Develop comprehensive plans for monitoring the conditions of heritage objects in storage and on display.
