Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) is a water resources management institution established in terms of the National Water Act, 1998 to perform sustainable and equitable integrated water resource management within the Inkomati-Usuthu Water Management Area (WMA) in Mpumalanga.

AQUATIC SCIENTIST: MACRO-INVERT (NELSPRUIT, HEAD OFFICE)
Remuneration Package within salary band C5 (Ref no 03/25/26)
Requirements: The candidate must possess a minimum of BSc (Honours) Zoology specializing in macroinvertebrate studies, and/or a related field with a Registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist. Minimum of 3 years in environment and water Resource Management, specifically practicing River Ecosystem Monitoring Programme. Accredited for SASS5 and proficient in MIRAI and IHI; A valid driver’s license. Working and travelling irregular hours when necessary.
Knowledge, skills and competencies required: Knowledge and experience of the water use authorization process will be an advantage. Competent in River Ecosystem Monitoring Programme; Knowledge of basic water chemistry; Ability to implement MIRAI; Ability to work in a diverse environment; National Water Act and other relevant legislation e.g. National Environmental Management Act; Professionalism; Strong work ethic; Problem Solving; Innovative; Data Analysis; Attention to detail; Use of GIS software; Self-directed; Communication and interpersonal skills; Report writing skills; Accuracy of reporting.
Key performance areas: Water Resource Management: Data Acquisition regarding the Macro-Invertebrate Response Assembly Index and habitat integrity. Determination of the present ecological status (PES), ecological integrity and sensitivity (EIS). Interpretation of the eco-status of the water resource based on macroinvertebrate response assembly index and habitat integrity. Implement appropriate quality assurance and control system. Interpretation of results and report writing. Specialist input into water use authorization processes. Project and financial management.
