Synopsis
 
The IDC Dealmakers Programme:
All successful applicants will be trained on the three major aspects of the IDC Due Diligence Process, namely Marketing, Financial and Technical Analysis. The candidates will be given both classroom and on the job training.
This position will be based on a 3 year (36 months) Fixed Term contract.
 
Job Description
Fixed Term Contract position exist within the Learning & Development Department for Business Analysts to be trained as IDC Deal Makers at our Head Office in Sandton.
 
Qualification and Experience
Formal Qualification
4-year degree in Science (Chemistry/Physics/Agriculture) OR Mathematics OR Engineering
MBA/MBL will be an added advantage
 
Experience
Min: 3 -5 years related work experience (in the relevant qualification/discipline)
 
Roles and Responsibilities
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
-Completing the prescribed training programme, and clearing disciplines in the required time frame
-Conducting initial basic assessments of applications for finance;
- Conducting due diligence studies for investment decision purposes, with specific reference to marketing, technical and financial aspects;
-Preparation of financial projections as an integral part of the due diligence;
-Preparation and presentation of reports to a committee for an investment decision;
-Handling enquiries pertaining to investments, internal as well as from potential clients;
-Building and maintaining good relationships with clients;
-Monitoring of and reporting on all investments on a regular basis; and
- Performing all administrative duties associated with the role of a deal maker.

Job Description
This position is aimed at driving the long-term sustainability strategic objectives and priorities which are: Development Impact Effectiveness, Financial Sustainability, Customer Centricity and People.
The Head: Project Development is a change agent tasked with leading a team of future thinkers with a specific focus on:
  • Understanding the key sector drivers, impact of and potential for disruption in sectors.
  • Creating / generating a broader portfolio of new industrial investment opportunities.
  • Actively cultivate new business in order to robustly expand the IDC’s project pipeline.
  • Proactively develop strategic partnerships on projects taking bold initiatives to create alliances for promoting and developing project opportunities.
  • Provide project oversight to mitigate risks and ensure project success throughout the project development cycle.
  • Prioritising opportunities for project development.
  • Leading successful development outcomes for pilot projects and commercializing and scaling outcomes.
  • Assisting projects through development life cycle.
  • Identifying opportunities to unlock industrial development to foster economic growth, regional integration, extending the industry to create and preserve jobs and sustain economic development.
  • Responsible for the overall management and leadership of the unit.
 
Qualification and Experience
 
Qualifications
  • Minimum qualification: relevant Post Graduate engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Finance qualification would be an advantage.
  • Project management qualification and project development experience would be an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Preferably 10 -12 years’ relevant experience in project conceptualisation, development and implementation
  • 8 years of Project Finance and/or Corporate Finance experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience at a leadership level and management of teams
  • Solid experience in interacting and presenting to Senior and Executive leaders and the Board.
  • Experience in engaging, managing and negotiating with relevant specialist bodies, government institutions, industry associations etc.
  • Client management expertise
  • Experience with sectoral analysis, marketing, technical and other relevant non-financial aspects of project development.
 
Roles and Responsibilities
 
Financial/Shareholder Returns
  • Optimise the balance of financial and development returns on IDC’s risk capital in projects
  • Achieve a high success rate on projects engaged in
  • Crowd in risk capital to priority projects
  • Leverage concessionary off-balance sheet funding to achieve lower blended pricing for clients and effectively share risk
 
Internal /Operational Processes
  • Define and implement strategic objectives of the unit
  • Ensure that the strategies of the SBU are aligned with that of the Corporation and its mandate
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance
  • Develop and manage the project origination / opportunity sourcing approach to develop a broader portfolio of jobs-rich and value-adding clients and projects.
  • Actively cultivate new business, including the expansion of industrial firms with high growth potential
  • Proactively develop strategic partnership on projects
  • Contribute to industry policy decision making
  • Provide project oversight to mitigate risks and ensure project success
  • Deepen the project development methodology and capabilities
  • Manage the project development budget and allocate resources in line with strategic priorities
 
Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management
  • Build and maintain influential relationships with strategic stakeholders (government, industry forums, clients, regulatory authorities etc.)
  • Optimise service delivery in a manner that address client’s needs
  • Present the strategic objectives and operational plans of the unit to key decision making stakeholders within the Corporation (Executive Committees, the Shareholder and the Board)
  • Liaise, communicate and promote the unit externally
