Overview
The Electoral Commission is looking for a strong, multi-disciplinary and self-motivated person to provide effective legal services to all staff of the Electoral Commission.  The position reports to the Senior Legal Advisor: Legal Services.
 
Responsibilities/Duties
Key performance areas:  The candidate will be expected to provide legal support in the following areas, i.e. drafting and vetting of contracts, service level agreements, memoranda of understanding and other legal documents and letters; all litigation matters (Constitutional Court, High Court, Electoral Court and Magistrates Court); interpretation of statutes and the rendering of legal advice and the drafting of legal opinions; advising and/or drafting of legislative amendments to Acts and subordinate legislation; drafting of legal notices; support in respect of labour matters in the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration(CCMA), Labour Court, as well as internal disciplinary and grievance procedures.

 
Requirements
Matric plus an LLB degree ♦ admission as an attorney will be advantageous ♦ at least 8 years related working experience of which at least 5 years must be on a junior management level (assistant manager/assistant director or equivalent) ♦ knowledge of and at least 4 years' experience in legislative drafting ♦ experience in vetting and drafting of contracts such as service level agreements, maintenance contracts, lease agreements, corporate agreements, employment contracts, etc ♦ court experience in litigation matters, including civil litigation and criminal matters, as well as drafting of legal opinions and reports ♦ good knowledge of the Public Finance Management Act, public administrative and labour laws (including POPIA and PAIA, etc) and the relevant prescripts and acts that govern the Electoral Commission ♦ knowledge and experience in project management ♦ strong organizational, administrative competencies ♦ interpersonal skills ♦ sound communication skills ♦ solid computer literacy ♦ research skills ♦innovative, flexible, decisive, pro-active and diversity sensitive ♦ prepared to travel extensively and work extended hours ♦ must be in possession of a valid driver's license.
