INVITATION TO SERVE ON THE CONSUMER ADVISORY PANEL OF THE INDEPENDENT COMMUNICATIONS AUTHORITY OF SOUTH AFRICA: TEN (10) POSITIONS 

 
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is a public entity responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications, broadcasting and postal industries in South Africa, as mandated by the ICASA Act, No 13 of 2000, and Electronic Communications Act, No 36 of 2005. 
 
ICASA hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to serve on its Consumer Advisory Panel (CAP) at its Head Office in Centurion for a period of two (2) years. 
 
The CAP responsibilities is to assist Council in discharging its duties relating to consumer issues resulting from electronic communications, broadcasting and postal services management of ICASA, providing a consumer perspective through commentary on relevant regulations and regulatory projects when published for public comments, liaising with consumers to understand their perspective on issues impacting the sector, promoting the interest of consumers with emphasis on persons with disabilities, women, youth, senior citizens and people living in underserviced areas. 
 
 
Prospective candidates must be South African citizens, and have relevant expertise / knowledge in the electronic communications, broadcasting or postal services which will enable them to effectively advise the Authority on consumer issues and may include: 
• Representing a community of interest; 
• Competence in consumer rights, legal, communications or other relevant areas that contribute to consumer protection within the Authority’s jurisdiction; or 
• Representatives from organizations for women, youth, persons with disabilities, small micro and medium enterprises and community-based organization’s or non – governmental organizations. 
 
Disqualification in terms of section 6 of the ICASA Act No. 13 of 2000 (as amended) is applicable: Applicants may not among other things have a direct or indirect financial interest in the electronic communications, broadcasting or postal sectors; be a public servant or the holder of any other remunerated position under the State; be a Member of Parliament, any provincial legislature or any municipal council; be an office bearer or employee of any party, movement or organization of a party-political nature.
