- In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’ the Research Divisions, Units, Institutes and Centres of the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) undertake policy-oriented research from its offices in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, and Pietermaritzburg. Our public purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.
- HSRC Publishing is a small but prolific and innovative publishing house of social science and humanities scholarship and outstanding non-fiction from and about Africa and the global south.
- The publishing house has a vacancy for an Editorial & Project Manager. This position requires an individual to ensure that the editorial quality of HSRC’s publications is to the highest possible standards, within the budgetary and time frameworks relevant to each publication.
- This will be a permanent appointment, and the successful incumbent can be based in either the HSRC’s Cape Town or Pretoria based office.

Minimum Requirements
- A degree in social sciences of health sciences or humanities or tertiary qualification majoring in English/languages/literature/linguistics
- At least 5 years proven experience in editorial project management: and having produced at least five academic or non-fiction books.
- Attention to detail and ability to produce quality literary outputs. Ability to manage stressful deadlines and to problem solve
- Strong project management skills must be demonstrated
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills to deal with or manage authors, suppliers, etc. as well as strong teamwork skills to brief and work with commissioning and marketing departments
Duties & Responsibilities
Key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Manage editorial projects
- Quality control management
- Monitor and control editorial budgets
- Stakeholder liaison
- Project administration
- Corporate alignment

The Human Resources Department, which forms part of the Shared Services Division, is seeking a dynamic, mature, and innovative individual, who possesses advanced SAGE300 people knowledge and experience as well as advanced Tax experience. The freelancer will be responsible for delivering tax compliance audits, developing SOPs, and providing training workshops for HSRC payroll staff.
TAX and SAGE 300 People Freelancer

Minimum Requirements
- Advanced Tax knowledge. A Tax practitioner will be an added advantage.
- Seasoned knowledge of Sage300 People software.
- Experience in implementing, configuring, and customizing Sage300 people software so that the Sage300 people functions and processes generate the data output for business as required following the mapping of the business and functional requirements.
- Experience with SQL and Crystal Reports.
- Ability to do hardware compatibility tests, Sage300 people API knowledge.
- Understanding of Sage300 people modules and the design of the Sage300 people architecture and solution.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Creation of an inclusive Standard Operating Procedure Process document that duly takes the complexities and different payroll rules into consideration.
- Perform a bi-annual tax compliance audit to ensure that all tax requirements are met.
- Present, on a six (6) monthly basis, a training workshop with the payroll team to discuss all tax requirements especially as it relate to potential tax changes, tax audit requirements, etc.
