DEPARTMENT CIVIL ENGINEERING
MILLWRIGHT (ARTISAN) - PUMP MAINTENANCE (REF: 2025-2026 / 009)
(Section: Water & Sewer) - 2 Positions
 
Requirements:
 Grade 12 or N3
 Trade Test as Millwright
 Three to five (3-5) years post apprenticeship experience in industrial or municipal maintenance, preferably in water/wastewater treatment works.
 Computer Literacy for maintenance work orders.
 Good Communication skills
 Valid Code EB (08) Driver’s license
 
The successful applicant / candidate must possess competencies as published in Annexure A of the Local Government: Municipal Staff Regulations promulgated in Government Gazette 45181 of 20 September 2021
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Install, align, and maintain mechanical and rotating equipment including pumps, motors, compressors, blowers, valves, gearboxes, conveyors and related systems.
 Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment at the Water and Wastewater Treatment Works.
 Pump overhauls.
 Electric motor overhauls.
 Assisting with motor and pump breakdowns.
 Work collaboratively with Electricians, Operators, and Instrumentation Technicians on maintenance and repair projects.
 Changing of pumps and motors as required.
 Ensuring standby equipment is in working condition.
 Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals.
 Ensure overload settings are correct.
 Troubleshoot mechanical and hydraulic issues to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
 Inspect and maintain equipment for proper operation, lubrication, and alignment.
 Assist in testing, commissioning and installing new equipment and infrastructure.
 Fault finding on switchgears.
 Maintain accurate maintenance records and logbooks in accordance with municipal standards.
 Knowledge of safety regulations in a confined space, and lockout/tagout procedures.
 
BASIC ANNUAL: R541 398.00 (Post level 6) plus normal company benefits
