LITIGATION SPECIALIST
 
Minimum requirements: A Postgraduate qualification in law, Admission as an Attorney / Advocate A minimum of 5 — 8 years post admission litigation experience, preferably civil, commercial and public service.
 
Key performance areas:
• Provide strategic litigation advice to the business and the Board pertaining to litigation matters, identifying risks and plans to mitigate such
 • Track new developments in litigation services practices and make recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the litigation program
• Keep abreast of legal and litigation matters relating to the industry and best practise
• Prepare legal opinions and liaise with external lawyers (Attorneys) where relevant to ensure all litigation matters are dealt with and resolved in the best interest of the GGB
• Draft pleadings, giving advice on evidence, preparing witness statements, leading and cross examining witnesses, preparing and presenting heads of argument
• Provide high quality litigation advice to the Gauteng Gambling Board on the litigation approval of cases.
• Work closely with key stakeholders to analyse requests and constructively provide feedback that meets requirements while leveraging litigation services core competencies
• Identify areas that require litigation guidance in order to resolve complex stakeholder relations issues.
• Determine operational requirements for the litigation program department and input into the budget and forecasts. Authorize expense claims, certain departmental expenditure in accordance with delegation of authority, apply appropriate financial controls to ensure expenditure levels are prudent, and wastage is limited. Monitor legal costs are aligned to the budget.
• Ensure that all litigation projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
• Conduct induction and training for new staff and new Board members on the litigation program.
