FILM AND PUBLICATION BOARD (FPB)
The Film and Publication Board (FPB) is a statutory body, with its main task being the classification of films, videos, DVDs, computer games and certain publications, including online content for their suitable age viewership. Our mission is to "ensure the regulation of media entertainment content by empowering the public, contributing to child protection and promoting the growth of industry".
INVITATION FOR NOMINATION OF CLASSIFIERS
The Council of the Film and Publication Board invites nominations or self-nominated South African citizens to serve on the Film and Publication Board as Classifiers. Council appoints Classifiers to regulate content in terms of the Films and Publications Act.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7) and/or work experience in relevant fields, including:
- Arts and culture;
- Social, legal, psychological or educational services;
- NGO experience with children, women, men and people with disabilities; and
- Advocacy and community services.
- Media or political studies
- Knowledge on FPB legislation, Guidelines and Regulations.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant Legislation
- Excellent report writing skills
- A good understanding of visual and new media, and converging technology
- Prior experience in advanced-level gaming would be an advantage
- Excellent analytical skills
- High levels of personal and professional integrity and work ethics
- A broad understanding of South African constitutional principles
- Other language (local and foreign) proficiency, will be an advantage
In addition, successful candidates may be utilised as Chief Classifiers and should have good facilitation, people management and leadership skills.
Please note:
- Successful Classifiers will serve for a three-year period on an independent consultancy basis.
- All Classification work is based at the FPB Head Office in Centurion or viewing venues in Johannesburg and Classifiers must reside within the Johannesburg / Pretoria metropolitan area.
- Remuneration rates applicable: R329/hr for Chief Classifiers and R281/hr for Classifiers for time worked, reviewed annually as per the National Treasury directive.
- Applicants will be subject to credential verification and security vetting.
- Current Classifiers may re-apply provided that they have not served more than one term in the post.
- Classifiers will have to view explicit and distressing content and will have to attend regular, compulsory debriefing sessions.
- The Council seeks to appoint a Classifier pool that reflects the diversity of the South African environment.
