The KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Board, trading as Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife (Ezemvelo), is a PFMA Schedule 3C public entity established in terms of the KwaZulu-Natal Nature Conservation Management Act (Act No. 9 of 1997). 
 
THE ENTITY 
The Ezemvelo is a nature conservation agency responsible for managing and controlling nature conservation and promoting ecotourism within and outside of environmental protected areas in the KwaZulu-Natal province. The organisation would like to appoint a suitably qualified candidate for the position of the Chief Audit Executive. 
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB 
The Chief Internal Auditor directly reports functionally to the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) of the Board, and holds an administrative reporting line to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In this role, the primary responsibility is to manage the organisation's Internal Audit & Forensic Audit Business Unit. Additionally, the incumbent is tasked with delivering independent assurance to both management and the Board on issues pertaining to governance and internal control processes, ensuring these processes comply with all legislative and regulatory requirements as well as the organisation’s strategic objectives. 
Overall, the role is expected to provide assurance that the organisation’s resources are utilised ethically, effectively, and efficiently. This includes ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulatory frameworks, implementing robust fraud prevention strategies, and offering insights and recommendations to enhance operational performance and support sustainable business practices. 
Moreover, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining and enhancing stakeholder confidence by upholding the highest standards of audit integrity and transparency. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
It is mandatory for all applicants to meeting the following minimum requirements: 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with majors in Auditing or Internal Auditing; 
  • Registered as a member of the Institute for Internal Auditors; 
  • Valid Code EB driver’s is mandatory. 
 
The following additions will be an added advantage
  • A Post-Graduate qualification(s) in Forensic Auditing or/and Investigation or/and Criminal Justice; 
  • Registration as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). 
 
EXPERIENCE
All applicants are to meet the following minimum experiences requirements: 
  • 6 to 7 years’ experience in auditing and forensic environment with progressive responsibility, of which 3 years should be in the senior management; 
  • Experience in either public or private sector auditing environments is essential; 
  • Demonstrated success in leading audit teams and managing large-scale audit projects; 
  • Proficiency in auditing software, data analytics tools, and modern audit methodologies; 
  • Deep understanding of the regulatory environment in South Africa; and 
  • Proven ability to interact with senior management, board members, and external regulatory bodies; Prior exposure to conservation, environmental management, or resource management sectors will be highly advantageous. 
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Internal Audit & Forensic Audit Unit and the management of all Internal Audit activities; 
  • Assist in conducting the organizational Risk Assessment and compile Risk Profile reports; 
  • Prepare Internal Audit Strategic Plan, Business Plan and annual Operational Plan in accordance with the requirements of the PFMA, Treasury Regulations and Ezemvelo Strategic Plan and ensure requirements of International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing; 
  • Develop strategies, policies, plans, procedure manuals and best practices for forensic investigation services conduct and oversee forensic investigations and ensure that factual findings are correct and recommendations are legally sound; 
  • Effectively manage the unit to ensure the economical, efficient, and effective utilization of internal audit resources; 
  • Provide guidance, development and training needs to internal audit staff; 
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation and ensures the successful implementation thereof throughout Ezemvelo. 
 
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 
  • The candidate must be a performance driven individual with extensive knowledge of internal auditing and International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing; 
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable in forensic investigation; 
  • Candidate must be a strategic, lateral and analytical thinking person with good communication, teamwork, good management and leadership and people orientated person; 
  • Candidate must have excellent understanding of business processes and systems, in-depth knowledge of GAAP, Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations.

THE ENTITY: 
The entity is responsible for the management of nature conservation within the Province of KwaZulu-Natal including protected areas as well as the development and promotion of ecotourism and facilities within the protected areas. Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife wishes to appoint a suitable candidate for the position of GIS Analyst. 
 
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: 
To provide specialist technical spatial mapping and analysis at Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Head Office at Queen Elizabeth Park, Montrose, Pietermaritzburg. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Degree (or equivalent NQF 7 qualification) in Natural or Life Sciences, Ecology, Biology or Botany, BSc in Geospatial Science or Geoinformatics. 
  • A postgraduate degree in an appropriate discipline will be an added advantage. 
  • Registration with a legislated professional regulatory body such as the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) is desirable. 
 
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 8 years of work experience in a relevant field, 4 years of which should be spatial analysis or first line of management of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Projects of which 4 years of which should be first line management position(s). 
 
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS 
  • Source, develop, and manage spatial data. 
  • Undertake advanced spatial analyses to support Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife projects. Co-ordinate and undertake analyses required to develop and revise the relevant systematic conservation plans 
  • Keep abreast of national and international developments in systematic conservation planning and ensure that these are being used in achieving KZN’s systematic conservation plan. 
  • Acquire, develop and update GIS layers that are required at provincial level for Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Scientists to undertake appropriate spatial analysis. 
  • Guide Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife scientists on appropriate spatial analysis for various projects. 
  • Execute Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technical support to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and its stakeholders related to mapping and GIS analysis Generating, amongst others, the KZN Biodiversity Plan and/or Systematic Conservation Plans (CPLAN), critical biodiversity area maps, strategic protected area establishment maps, and water production areas. 
  • Contribute to local and provincial spatial development frameworks, local land use schemes, rural development plans, environmental management frameworks, and the like. 
  • Contribute to the State of Biodiversity Report. 
  • Determine priority areas for protected area expansion, 
  • Determine buffers, zones of influence for protected areas, 
  • Undertake mentoring and capacity building on spatial analysis and GIS data management Interpret spatial information for science communication. and 
  • Responsible for GIS technicians, student, and intern supervision and mentoring. 
 
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED 
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, legal processes, and legal framework. 
  • A strong command of the English language (verbal and written) which includes technical and narrative writing. 
  • Meticulous approach to collection and verification of data and information. 
  • Extensive experience working with spatial data layers related to biodiversity (marine and terrestrial) and other ecological and environmental infrastructure maps. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of spatial and non-spatial data analysis skills including data collection, data management, data flow, spatial analysis, and cartography. 
  • Evidence of experience in technical analysis skills in GIS or using spatial packages of R or Python is essential. 
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing spatial projects. 
  • Understanding of research processes and outputs. knowledge of the science-policy interface. 
  • Knowledge of biodiversity conservation priorities. in-depth understanding of national and global biodiversity conservation. 
  • Knowledge of legislation pertaining to biodiversity conservation. 
  • Project management knowledge, coordination, and skills. 
  • Ability to maintain sound interpersonal relations. and 
  • Be in possession of a valid unendorsed and valid Code B driver’s license, as well as be willing to travel and participate in research in the field.
