Introduction
 FIXED-TERM CONTRACT
The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) is a statutory body charged with the mandate to regulate the engineering profession in accordance with the Engineering Profession Act 46 of 2000.                     
           
Position Summary: The Employee Relations Specialist vacancy has become available. This position will be Responsible for the promotion of a harmonious workplace relations and sound employment practices in accordance with relevant labour legislations and ECSA organisation policies and procedures and the co-ordination, implementation and delivering of allocated human resources duties in line with ECSA Human Resources Policies and relevant legislation.  The successful candidate will report to the Senior Human Capital Manager.
 
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee managing and maintaining positive employee relations, ensuring compliance with labour laws and regulations, and handling all industrial relations issues within the organization:
  • Initiate the review processes of policies and procedures in relation to the relevant legislation
  • Monitor and review employer/ employee practices in adherence with policies and procedures and or legislation
  • Implementation of Employee Relations policies and procedures to ensure consistent application.
  • Provide guidance and counsel to staff towards resolutions of employee relations matters (discipline, grievances, work performance and ill health)
  • Utilise the pro forma templates in processing disciplinary matters (warning letters, suspensions letters, and termination letters)
  • Support employee relations programmes and interventions as and when required
  • Implement resolutions to employee relations issues raised through various means
  • Support the Human Resources Manager in Disciplinary and grievance related matters including CCMA and Labour Court matters
  • Conduct and analyse exit interviews.
  • Assist with conflict management when requested
  • Interpret contractual agreements for the employer  and employees where necessary
  • Facilitate horizontal and vertical disputes / conflict to reconcile differences
  • Review employee disciplinary actions such as warnings, suspension or terminations and advise management accordingly
  • Enable managers through coaching and other methods to manage workplace industrial relations matters
  • Assist in the identification, development and  implementation of processes to  support the wellbeing of the organisation
  • Schedule and co - ordinate grievance hearings
  • Facilitate preparations for internal disciplinary hearings (documentation and witnesses), CCMA and labour court related disputes
  • Represent the organisation in CCMA proceedings
  • Support the Senior Human Capital Manager in the compiling and submission of  rating schedules and other reports for the Executives as and when required
  • Support the Education of ECSA in areas of Employment Equity.
  • Collate data for the analysis and evaluation of  organisational compliance with legislation
  • Collate data for inputs into the development of the Employment Equity Report in accordance with the Department of Labour requirements
  • Support the monitoring and evaluation of compliance to the Employment Equity Plan
  • Assist with the compilation of the Employment Equity Reports
  • Co-ordination the submission of mandatory HR Reports (Employment Equity Report, Workplace Skills Plan)
  • Assist in the Liaison with the HR Systems service providers.
  • Assist employees with general queries related to HR
  • Facilitate the recruitment process from the beginning to the end.
 
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Degree in Social Science in Human Resources Employee Relations or relevant;
  • Five (5) years’ experience in Employee Relations;
  • Registration with SABPP as HR Professional is advantageous.
 
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases;
  • In-depth knowledge of South African Labour Legislation and HR best practices;
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable legislation, policies, procedures and standards enforcement, business perspective, project management, records and information management ;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, SAGE 300 or related software.
