ANALYST

Purpose
Reporting to the Executive Director Biodiversity and Conservation, the Analyst is responsible for conducting investigations, developing intelligence networks, managing informers, designing and managing information systems as well as target centric analysis and tracking data needed to facilitate projects and various operations. Must be proficient in information technologies needed in developing information systems and generating accurate reports or forecasts.

Requirements
  • A 3-year tertiary qualification is required, plus minimum 5 (five) years’ experience in investigations/prosecutions, and intelligence field experience and informer management.
  • Data analysis and implementation; statistical knowledge; good at analysing information; teamwork; promoting process improvement.
  • Knowledge of all relevant Environmental Legislation, ECPTA Act, Criminal Procedure Act, Court Procedures, relevant Provincial Ordinances, Labour legislation, Firearms Act and Firearms competency, EMI competency would be advantageous.
  • Valid firearm competency
  • Extensive knowledge of Firearms Control Act and management of firearms (allocations, maintenance, etc.) is required.
  • Will be required to pass security clearance.
 
 
Key Performance Areas
  • Analysis: Set up Intelligence Analysis Operating System and work through daily reports / incident reports and intelligence reports received from different sources.
  • Information Gathering: Gather information regarding rare and endangered species in the province, nationally as well as on an international level. Engage with relevant stakeholders such as SAPS, Crime Intelligence and Organized Crime. Managing and establishing extensive informer networks.
  • Surveillance: Coordinate and conduct proper surveillance by using proper techniques and utilizing the available technology.
  • Administration: Prepare monthly and quarterly progress reports on work areas. Prepare submissions as required and maintain administrative process for unit including all allocated Management of ECPTA firearms and keeping business competencies of law enforcement staff up to date as required.
