Minimum requirements
  • At PhD in Horticulture/ Horticultural Science/ Plant Science/ Botany or plant science- related field
  • At least 3 years teaching and/or professional experience in the field of horticulture, preferably in ornamental horticulture
 
Additional requirements
  • Up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends in the field of sustainable horticulture and
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to engage industry partners, staff and
  • Evidence of publication in peer reviewed journals or conference proceedings will be an added advantage.
  • Availability to work at other DUT campuses, in evening and during weekends as required.

Summary of duties 
  • Lecture horticulture and landscape related modules or other related modules as deemed necessary by the Head of Department;
  • Conduct practicals, develop appropriate teaching aids and perform theoretical and practical assessments for students;
  • Assist in the curriculum development and writing of appropriate course material;
  • Participate in departmental activities including research, departmental meetings and community engagement;
  • Perform administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department;
  • Community liaison and outreach work as required;
  • Acquire research funding and build a research portfolio within the field of horticulture and plant biodiversity.
  • Supervise students doing research or on-campus practical

Senior Lecturer
Minimum Requirements

  • A PhD / Doctorate qualification in Chemical Engineering or equivalent
  • A Degree in Chemical Engineering (e.g. BTech, BEng, BSc Eng, Advanced Diploma).
  • At least 5 years teaching experience / professional.
  • Evidence of publication track record in peer reviewed.
  • Evidence of at least one completed postgraduate supervision.
  • Good communication and lecturing
  • A strong passion for teaching and
  • Registrable as a professional engineer or engineering technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
 
Summary of duties 
Teach Chemical Engineering subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Successful postgraduate supervision of at least two Masters’ students and one Doctorate
  • The standard achieved in each of the abovementioned must be of a high
  • Recipient of grant
  • Evidence of leadership in community organizations and participation in activities in the wider community relating specifically to the academic discipline of the candidate and/or involvement in significant activities in professional, cultural, religious, sporting, development, and other
  • Bibliometric to evaluate the quality of research
  • Registrable as a professional engineer or engineering technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

DIRECTOR PROTECTION SERVICES
PEOPLE AND OPERATIONS

 
Status of Position:
5-year renewable contract based on performance.

Minimum Requirements:
  • NQF Level 8 qualification in Management/Business Administration with specialization in Security Risk Management or security related qualifications,
  • Grade B, PSIRA Registration,
  • At least 10 years’ experience in Protection Services of which 5 years in senior management/supervisory capacity,
  • Knowledge in the security framework, crisis management at strategic and tactical level, investigations and technical security measures,
  • Conducting security vulnerability assessments,
  • Security operations management including emergency and crisis management.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic alignment of Protection Services and Traffic Control through development and implementation of strategic and operational plans on security and traffic
  • Develops and implement security and safety policies and procedures such as emergency response and crisis management, disaster recovery, physical security and incident management.
  • Ensures financial and contract management through development of a budget for Protection and Traffic in terms of the University’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide team & stakeholder management through strategic leadership and advice on protection matters.
  • Ensures systems management by overseeing that the data are collated and captured to effectively manage the Protection services function, e.g. statistics on the number/nature of security incidents reported by campuses.
