Job Description
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Academic Development Practitioner to join our Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching unit. This role will focus on leading curriculum and staff development initiatives, leading academic induction, advancing transformative approaches to learning, teaching and assessment and promoting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
 
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead staff development programmes, fostering the integration of innovative teaching methodologies
  2. Oversee and coordinate academic induction programmes for new staff, ensuring a smooth transition into the academic environment.
  3. Promote and implement decolonial practices in curriculum design and pedagogy, contributing to the advancement of decoloniality in education.
  4. Support and enhance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) initiatives, encouraging research-driven teaching practices and reflective teaching.
  5. Facilitate professional learning programmes, including workshops on curriculum enhancement, teaching and learning innovations, and collaborative learning.
  6. Collaborate with academic and support departments to foster Communities of Practice, promoting peer learning, reflection, and the exchange of best practices.
  7. Provide guidance and support for staff engaging in curriculum transformation and renewal projects to meet the evolving needs of our diverse student body.
  8. Perform other duties as delegated by the Director of CELT.
 
Requirements: 
Qualifications and Experience
  1. A Doctoral qualification in Higher Education or a related field.
  2. Knowledge of South African Higher Education national policies
  3. At least 10 years’ experience in Higher Education Learning and Teaching
  4. Proven experience in academic staff development, curriculum design, and learning teaching in a higher education context.
  5. A strong background in implementing decolonial practices in curriculum and pedagogy.
  6. Demonstrated expertise in SoTL and a track record of research and publications in the field of higher education teaching and learning.
  7. Experience in the review and design of learning and teaching related policies
  8. Experience in leading Communities of Practice and promoting a culture of collaboration and innovation among staff.
  9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with diverse academic teams.

ICTS: Information Systems Development 
Post: ERP Systems Administrator x2 (Ref: TBC)
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • An NQF Level 6 qualification in Computer Science or Information Technology or an equivalent qualification.
  • 3 years of experience in administering corporate ERP systems and software.
  • 3 years of experience in supporting ERP systems and software.
  • Administration of ICT systems and software.
  • ERP System and Software Certification is advantageous.
  • Problem-solving of complicated system and software problems.
  • System and applications management
 
Summary of Duties:
  • System administration actions are required in accordance with scheduled activities
  • Determine the required administration actions in accordance with the schedule/request.
  • Ensure that the necessary change requests are authorised in accordance with procedures.
  • Complete the necessary system administration in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Escalate administration actions to the relevant role players where required and monitor to ensure completion within allocated time frames.
  • Test the administration actions to ensure functionality.
  • Document administration actions for future reference purposes.
  • System monitoring is required in accordance with daily schedule.
  • Monitor the Database to ensure optimised functionality.
  • Identify any possible malfunctioning or deficient performance.
  • Rectify the problems in accordance with procedures.
  • Test the resolution in accordance with procedures.
  • Implement the resolution in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Document all actions for future reference purposes.
  • Evaluates and/or recommends purchase of systems and software hardware, and peripheral equipment.
  • Provides technical consulting services to department/organisation regarding the use of ERP systems and software to satisfy business needs.
  • Installs, configures and maintains ERP systems and software.
  • Adds or upgrades and configures ERP systems and software.
  • Performance and/or oversees software and application development, installation and upgrades.
  • Maintains site licenses for DUT.
  • Plans and implements ERP systems and software to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
  • Receive a request for testing and analyse to determine the type of testing required.
  • Obtain/develop a test specification in accordance with system specifications.
  • Develop a test plan based on the test specification.
  • Specify test acceptance criteria in accordance with requirements.
  • Develop the necessary test scripts to automate the testing process where possible.
  • Determine any malfunctioning and report to the relevant role players for rectification.
  • Compile a test report reflecting all testing completed and rectification required.
  • Archive the test file for future reference purposes.
  • Identify the need for training in accordance with queries and staff application.
  • Develop the learning material in accordance with the objectives.
  • Continuously evaluate the learning to ensure that the learners are competent.
  • Submit the training results to HRD for capturing on the database.
  • The need for provision of support is identified during the execution of outputs.
  • Submit the resolution document to the document management system for future reference purposes.
  • Receive and analyse a request for the development of script to determine the nature of the functionality.
  • Conduct an impact study to determine the possible effect on the current- and associated systems.
  • Develop the script in accordance with the functional specification.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing in collaboration with the users in accordance with the functional specification.
  • Test the modifications in accordance with the policies and procedures and the functional specification.
  • Document the script for future reference purposes.

Overall Purpose of the Job
To support the Senior Desktop Engineer and team by providing computer (hardware and software) support to the DUT in order to ensure excellent customer service and alignment with the objectives of ICT and those of the DUT.

Position Description 

Provide Support
  • Receive and analyse a request to determine the nature and extent of the support to be provided; or
  • The need for provision of support is identified during the execution of outputs

Customer Advice
  • Manages relationships with, and regularly assesses needs and views of core customers in the DUT in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of services specifically in the following:
    • Ensures efficient up to date and continuous Desktop support service to all DUT Users
    • Determines user needs and responds promptly and appropriately, referring when necessary
Conduct Fault Analysis
  • Receive a request for the analysis of faults and analyse to determine the nature and extent of the fault analysis; or
  • Fault analysis must be conducted in accordance with scheduled reports/activities
  • Monitor the fault analysis tools to determine any faults to be analysed
Repair/Maintain Desktop/Laptop
  • Identify the required maintenance on the desktop/laptop
    • Upgrading of hardware/software
    • Updating software
    • Addition/removal of software
  • Conduct the repair/maintenance and test the desktop/laptop to ensure that it is fully operational
Ensure Service Quality
  • Service quality must be analysed in accordance with scheduled analysis activities
  • Collect the necessary data for the analysis process from the various sources utilising the relevant business tools
  • Collate the analysed information into the prescribed format
  • Consult the necessary standards and specifications to determine the quality levels applicable
