Job Description
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Academic Development Practitioner to join our Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching unit. This role will focus on leading curriculum and staff development initiatives, leading academic induction, advancing transformative approaches to learning, teaching and assessment and promoting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead staff development programmes, fostering the integration of innovative teaching methodologies
- Oversee and coordinate academic induction programmes for new staff, ensuring a smooth transition into the academic environment.
- Promote and implement decolonial practices in curriculum design and pedagogy, contributing to the advancement of decoloniality in education.
- Support and enhance the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) initiatives, encouraging research-driven teaching practices and reflective teaching.
- Facilitate professional learning programmes, including workshops on curriculum enhancement, teaching and learning innovations, and collaborative learning.
- Collaborate with academic and support departments to foster Communities of Practice, promoting peer learning, reflection, and the exchange of best practices.
- Provide guidance and support for staff engaging in curriculum transformation and renewal projects to meet the evolving needs of our diverse student body.
- Perform other duties as delegated by the Director of CELT.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience
- A Doctoral qualification in Higher Education or a related field.
- Knowledge of South African Higher Education national policies
- At least 10 years’ experience in Higher Education Learning and Teaching
- Proven experience in academic staff development, curriculum design, and learning teaching in a higher education context.
- A strong background in implementing decolonial practices in curriculum and pedagogy.
- Demonstrated expertise in SoTL and a track record of research and publications in the field of higher education teaching and learning.
- Experience in the review and design of learning and teaching related policies
- Experience in leading Communities of Practice and promoting a culture of collaboration and innovation among staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with diverse academic teams.

Minimum Requirements:
- An NQF Level 6 qualification in Computer Science or Information Technology or an equivalent qualification.
- 3 years of experience in administering corporate ERP systems and software.
- 3 years of experience in supporting ERP systems and software.
- Administration of ICT systems and software.
- ERP System and Software Certification is advantageous.
- Problem-solving of complicated system and software problems.

Summary of Duties:
- System administration actions are required in accordance with scheduled activities
- Determine the required administration actions in accordance with the schedule/request.
- Ensure that the necessary change requests are authorised in accordance with procedures.
- Complete the necessary system administration in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Escalate administration actions to the relevant role players where required and monitor to ensure completion within allocated time frames.
- Test the administration actions to ensure functionality.
- Document administration actions for future reference purposes.
- System monitoring is required in accordance with daily schedule.
- Monitor the Database to ensure optimised functionality.
- Identify any possible malfunctioning or deficient performance.
- Rectify the problems in accordance with procedures.

- Receive and analyse a request for the development of script to determine the nature of the functionality.
- Conduct an impact study to determine the possible effect on the current- and associated systems.
- Develop the script in accordance with the functional specification.
- Conduct user acceptance testing in collaboration with the users in accordance with the functional specification.

To support the Senior Desktop Engineer and team by providing computer (hardware and software) support to the DUT in order to ensure excellent customer service and alignment with the objectives of ICT and those of the DUT.

Position Description
Provide Support
- Receive and analyse a request to determine the nature and extent of the support to be provided; or
- The need for provision of support is identified during the execution of outputs
- Diagnose the problem to determine the appropriate action

- Conduct research to develop a solution (internet problem resolution)
- Manages relationships with, and regularly assesses needs and views of core customers in the DUT in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of services specifically in the following:
- Ensures efficient up to date and continuous Desktop support service to all DUT Users
- Determines user needs and responds promptly and appropriately, referring when necessary
- Receive a request for the analysis of faults and analyse to determine the nature and extent of the fault analysis; or
- Fault analysis must be conducted in accordance with scheduled reports/activities
- Monitor the fault analysis tools to determine any faults to be analysed
- Identify the required maintenance on the desktop/laptop
