Job Description
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), in partnership with Durban University of Technology (DUT), is embarking on an initiative to build a new generation of academics. Phase 10 of the Staffing South Africa’s Universities Framework (SSAUF) is called the New Generation of Academics Programme and is aimed at attracting people with relevant qualifications and experience to pursue a Doctoral qualification while they are developing as proficient academics at the University. Successful candidates will engage in comprehensive support programs that include a salary, mentorship, equipment, cost of tuition fees, etc.
Only South Africans who are 40 years or younger from the designated and underrepresented groups will be considered. The aggregate mark for their Masters' qualification must be 70% and above.
 
 The University is looking for Aspirant Academics in the following academic discipline:
 Architecture
 
 Minimum Requirements:
  • A Master’s degree in Architecture and,
  • Committed to pursuing a Doctoral qualification in Architecture within the time permitted.
 
Additional Requirements:
  • 2 years post-graduate experience in Architecture.

Summary of Duties
  • Competent preparation and delivery of learning material related to Architecture and appropriate technologies to students at an undergraduate level using online platforms.
  • Development of learning material for Architecture courses.
  • Supervise, educate, and assess undergraduate students.
  • Undertake assessment and administration duties related to teaching and learning.
  • Facilitate learning effectively through traditional and online methods. 
  • Undertake research and publications, and become involved in community engagement.
  • Working collegially with team members toward attaining the department, faculty, and university goals. 
  • Assist with administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department or Representative.
 
Conditions of Employment
In accepting an NGAP appointment, the incumbent will have to:
  1. Commit to full participation in the 6-year New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP)
  2. Commit to registering for Doctoral studies (as applicable) within 6 months of taking up the nGAP appointment. Please note that nGAP appointees who already hold a doctorate will be required to undertake a higher teaching/research workload. 
  3. Commit to work closely with the supervisor and mentor assigned to him/her and to adhere to the study plan and milestones developed with the supervisor.
  4. Commit to participating in the SSAU F Development Programme, which will involve participation in at least one short course/module per year focused on research or teaching development.
  5. Agree that s/he cannot accept any other funding from state sources that duplicates the purpose for which funding has already been allocated to him/her.
  6. Agree that s/he cannot accept any other funding for projects that conflict with obligations that arise from participating in the nGAP.
  7. Agree to inform the University and the Department of Higher Education and Training of any other funding that s/he has been offered before accepting such funding.
  8. Agree that should s/he leaves the nGAP position before completing the 6-year program, s/he will be obliged to reimburse the nGAP fund by repaying the University the following costs incurred up to the point of leaving.
    • Registration and tuition fees for postgraduate studies, where applicable. 
    • Costs are associated with the assignment of a mentor to support development. 
    • Costs incurred for his/her participation in the SSAUF Development Programme.
    • Costs of infrastructure and equipment provided to support his/her work in the nGAP.
    • Any conference/ international mobility costs are paid by the nGAP.
    • 10% of salary costs are paid by the nGAP up to the point of leaving.

Post: Senior Assets and Liability Management 
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Degree in Accountancy, Finance, Business, or any other relevant qualification (NQF Level 7).
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in asset management preferably in a higher education environment or a large organisation of which 3 years should have been in an asset management role.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements and rules applicable to asset management, structured finance

Summary of Duties:
  • Provide data and information as requested by the Manager Asset Management for input into the Asset strategy to support the strategic objectives and annual performance plan for DUT.
  • Provide data and information for the drafting, communication, and monitoring of the implementation of an operational plan for the effective running of the asset function.
  • Support the identification and communication of plans to protect and maintain assets and minimise any potential liabilities.
  • Support the review, updating and development of policies, procedures, and process to manage and safeguard asset management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant policies and identify non-compliance matters for escalation.
  • Support the management of DUT assets and student residence assets in accordance with DUT policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that accurate appreciation and depreciation costs are reflected in the finance system.
  • Develop contingency plans to protect and safeguard DUT assets in consultation with protection services.
  • Provide data and information for the review of the replacement vs the repair of movable assets and support the manager’s recommendations.
  • Ensure the timeous maintenance and repairs of assets and ensure adherence to budget provisions in liaison with the respective departments and services.
  • Reconcile systems data to asset registers. Report and investigate variances and submit monthly reports to the Manager Asset Management detailing variances and reasons for deviation.
  • Conduct an annual review of insurance suppliers through the DUT procurement process.
  • Ensure that asset-related documentation and records are saved and archived in accordance with the DUT document management system.
  • Support the management of delivery on service level agreements / contractual obligations with external insurers.
  • Support all liaisons with external stakeholders to address and resolve any asset or insurance-related matters.
  • Support engagements with insurers on insurance claims, renewals, and escalated queries.
  • Provide information and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding insurance queries and claims.
  • Prepare reports for the purpose of reporting to various structures as required, in accordance with the reporting schedule.
  • Review or draft asset related reports to internal and external stakeholders and submit to relevant stakeholders.
  • Compile and consolidate all relevant data, information, and statistics required for the drafting of the asset management report for submission to the Manager Assets and Liability Management. Support the manager in drafting and presenting the report.

  • NQF level 7 in Finance or Commerce Plus ERP system certification OR Postgraduate certificate in project management, database design, database implementation, ERP specific administration OR A bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or IT related degree with post graduate certificates in financial management and project management.
  • A proven background in accounting/financial process.
  • Advanced grasp of relational databases and operating systems.
  • Outstanding Excel (VBA) skills.
  • SAP Certification.
  • 5 to 8 years in financial environment with supervisory experience. This should include a minimum of 3 years’ experience on ERP Financial Module (FI)

Summary of Duties:
  • Financial Systems Planning.
  • Application Support, maintenance and changes to business solutions and processes.
  • Provide shared compliance assistance to the Compliance Unit.
  • Month End Process.

Minimum requirements
  • PhD within the discipline of textile science/engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant teaching and/or textile industry experience in textile technology, manufacturing processes, or related areas (including teaching or training experience in Higher Education, industry, or training institutions).
  • Candidates should be at the level of Senior Lecturers / Associate Professors or Professors.
  • Strong background in academic leadership and scholarship.
 
Additional Recommendation
  • PhD within the discipline of dry processing of textile science/engineering. Undergraduate studies must include textile technology with a focus on dry processing subjects.
  • Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of textile fabric manufacturing, product engineering, including but not limited to, fabric construction, quality, and raw materials (including textile fibres and yarns).
  • A proven record of research publications and successful supervision within the field of textiles and related areas.
  • A broad understanding of current research developments and teaching trends within the discipline.

  • Addressing student queries and complaints related to the Department/Programme.
  • Managing and supervising departmental staff, including:
- The allocation of workload and responsibilities.
- Approval of staff leave.
  • Fostering positive staff relations and building a collaborative, student-centered team.
  • Attending to matters such as study leave, grievances, disputes, training & development.
  • Overseeing the appointment of part-time and replacement staff. 
  • Manage program and project budgets. 
  • Enhancing Faculty projects, e.g., Postgraduate Recruitment and supervision, Siyaphumelela, First Year Student Experience (FYSE), Orientation, and Graduation.
  • Provide leadership in teaching, learning, and research within the department.
  • Represent the department in relevant academic and professional forums.
