CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OF SUITABLE CANDIDATES FROM THE RESPECTIVE CONSTITUENCIES UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE CULTURE, ARTS, TOURISM, HOSPITALITY AND SPORT SECTOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING AUTHORITY (CATHSSETA) TO BE CONSIDERED FOR APPOINTMENT AS MEMBERS OF THE ACCOUNTING AUTHORITY BY THE MINISTER OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING, HONOURABLE Mr BUTI MANAMELA UNTIL 31 MARCH 2030
The Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA) is one of the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) that are established in terms of section 9 of the Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998 as amended (SDA) and classified as schedule 3 public entities in terms of section 49 of the Public Finance Management Act No.1 of 1999 as amended (PFMA).
In terms of section 11 of the SDA, the Minister is empowered to appoint 15 members of the Board as follows: Chairperson, who is independently appointed by the Minister;
- An Independent Chairperson;
- Six (6) representatives from Organised Employers registered with the CATHSSETA;
- Six (6) representatives from Organised Labour operating within the sector; and
- Two (2) representatives from Community-Based Organisations (CBOs); Non-Profit Organisations (NGOs); Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs); Professional Bodies; Bargaining Councils; and Government departments that have an interest in the Sector but are not organised employers.
The Honourable Minister hereby invites stakeholders to nominate candidates with suitable skills, knowledge and experience from the constituencies listed under paragraphs B, C and D to fill the 14 vacancies. Nomination must include youth and people with disabilities who meet the following requirements:
- Preferably an undergraduate qualification rated at National Qualification Framework level 7 by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) with
- Call for the nomination of suitable candidates to serve on the Board of CATHSSETA Page 2 of 2 expertise and experience in skills development or community development or governance;
- Minimum of five (5) years of traceable experience, of which three (3) should have been spent in a management or leadership position; and
- Must be a South African Citizen and in possession of an Identity Document.
Furthermore, the following documents must be completed in full and submitted electronically:
- Nomination form, signed by the nominator and the nominee;
- Nomination letter from the nominating organisation confirming the seniority of the nominee;
- Letter of acceptance of the nomination from the nominated candidate;
- Detailed Curriculum Vitae of the nominee;
- Certified copies of the Identity Document (ID) and educational qualifications (certified within six (6) months);
- Signed Declaration of Interest Form as provided by CATHSSETA;
- Completed Criminal Verification Form or a Copy of Police Clearance or Security Clearance if available.
NB: No self-nomination/application shall be accepted. Candidates who have been nominated during the November/December 2024 and February 2025 are not required to resubmit anything, as their submission will be considered.
