Job Title : Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Officer
Salary: R 509 983.11 Cost to Company, per annum
Peromnes Grade : 09
Location: Head Office :Pretoria
Reporting Line: Manager: Manager: SHEQ
 
Overall Job Purpose: To ensure that the Council for Geoscience carries out its duty to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and associated Regulations.  
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate Quarterly Health and Safety meetings
  • Collate monthly H&S Representative inspection checklists and compile a Health and Safety report
  • Facilitation of the appointment of Health and Safety committee members
  • Conduct Health and Safety emergency evacuation drills
  • Coordinate Health and Safety training programmes and ensure good record-keeping
  • Conduct Hazards Identification and Risk Assessments as per health and safety legislation Keep the CGS Health and Safety Risk register updated
  • Develop monthly “Health and Safety Tips” and publicise in the appropriate internal media
  • Formulate SHE performance statistics e.g. Disabling Injury Frequency Rate (DIFR)
  • Conduct Health and Safety Incident investigation and compile report
  • Design and develop documentation of the CGS Health and Safety Management system according to OHSAS 18001/ ISO 45000 requirements
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of OHS policies
  • Plan and conduct Health and Safety System Audits
  • Keep abreast with changes in Health and Safety legislation viz. OHS Act and Regulations
  • Work closely with other Units e.g. Maintenance and Human Resources to ensure successful execution of the CGS Health and Safety program
  • Lead the CGS Health and Safety program
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as necessary
  • Maintain a safe workplace environment within CGS
  • Liaising with OHS inspectors and enforcement services to improve CGS’s Safety Management System

Qualification and Experience:
  • B Degree in Safety Management plus 5 years relevant experience or equivalent in Safety Management plus 2 years relevant experience in Environmental Management or equivalent.
  • Certificate in OHSAS 18001.
  • Certificate in ISO 9001 or any relevant QMS.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Health and Safety Risk Assessments.
  • Health and Safety Incident Investigation.
  • Environmental Management.
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
