City Power Johannesburg SOC Limited is a municipal entity wholly owned by the City of Johannesburg. City Power commenced operations on 01 January 2001 and is responsible for electricity distribution within its area of supply in the City of Johannesburg. The Company provides services to a mix of approximately 3.2 million people.
APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION:
Designation - Senior Technician DC Systems
Group - Engineering Operations
Department - Secondary Plant
Reporting to - Manager: Direct Current Systems
Purpose
Supervision of a team of technicians to carry out commissioning tests, maintenance and fault investigation on DC systems of the City Power network to ensure quality of supply in meeting City Power’s objectives. Ensure the preventative maintenance and emergency breakdown repair work on City Power’s D.C. supply systems to ensure reliable and constant supply.
Key responsibilities
Scheduling and planning of resources required to undertake required tasks
Allocating right level of staff to the right jobs
Provide in-depth technical advice and support for field staff.
Conduct regular checks and inspections of all tools and equipment to ensure they are compliant.
Plan proactive maintenance
Take decisions that are required to maintain DC supply
Conduct DC systems performance monitoring and report thereon
Ensure teams are properly equipped and equipment is kept in good condition
Attend to all administrative processes involved in resource/asset management. e.g. Third party claims, Insurance claims
Maintains an appropriate level of commonly used spares
Manage the allocation and return of materials
Manage the condition and availability of transport.
Ensure effective execution of rotables process
Provide input into the development of maintenance plans
Diagnose malfunctioning equipment and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of malfunctioning and correct the problem
Monitor and inspect power plant equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operating problems
Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be problematic
Monitor controls to generate specified electrical power, or to regulate the flow of power between generating stations and substations
Direct and train technicians to install, maintain, or repair electrical metering equipment and fixtures
Provide assistance during emergencies
Perform any other tasks which the business may deem necessary
Maintains an appropriate level of commonly used spares
Manage the allocation and return of materials
Manage the condition and availability of transport.

Minimum qualifications
National Diploma in Electrical Engineering Heavy Current
Work Experience
5 years’ experience
