METROPOLITAN POLICE OFFICER TRAINEE

Location: JMPD Training Academy 
 
The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Public Safety Department (JMPD) is embarking on a training programme and successful applicants will undergo intense training where they will have an opportunity to become Metropolitan Police Officers. 
 
Minimum requirements 
The Applicant must: 
  • be a South African citizen. 
  • be in possession of a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12 /equivalent NQF Level 4). 
  • be domicile within the jurisdiction of the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (Applicants must provide original proof of residence). 
  • have no criminal conviction/record. 
  • be prepared to allow biometric data and other information to be taken for purposes of checking for a criminal record. 
  • have a Driver's License (No Learner’s license), minimum Code B. 
  • between the ages of 18 – 35 years. 
  • be physically and mentally fit. (A Comprehensive Medical Certificate must be submitted together with the application). 
  • be able to subject themselves to and successfully complete a pre-training fitness assessment. 
  • have no civil judgment(s) relating to fraud and/or corruption against his/her name. 
  • be prepared to undergo vetting processes. 
  • be proficient in English. 
  • have no objection and be prepared to carry a firearm and must wear a uniform. 
 
Personal attributes: 
The incumbent should be reliable, honest, have the highest sense of justice and integrity, have a positive attitude, be patient, and be able to work under pressure, under all weather conditions and shift hours. 
 
Terms of Training: 
Metropolitan Police Officer Trainees will be expected to undergo 18 months of training, and upon successful completion, will be considered for appointment as Metropolitan Police Officers. 
For the duration of the training, trainees will be subjected to the terms of training contracts, Academy rules, and RTMC training policy. Trainees will receive a stipend as per the City’s Policy. 
 
Upon completion of training: 
As a Qualified Metropolitan Police Officer, the incumbent must take the oath of office as determined by the Municipality and will be deployed to any area within the City of Johannesburg.

Minimum Requirements 
  • Grade 10 school certificate is required. 
  • Must be literate (Ability to add and subtract and read and write). 
  • Must be able to operate a cash register. 
  • 3 – 6 months’ Cashier and Cleaning experience and basic numeracy skills (collect and be able to calculate monies).

Primary Function:

Key Performance Areas:
  • Ensure that patrons tender the appropriate fees prior to entering of swimming pools, with the monitoring, services and cleaning of the facility. 
  • Various Cashier and Cloakroom duties, which include, but are not limited to, ensuring that the appropriate entrance fees are tendered by patrons and entering the same on the cash register. 
  • Control entry to the swimming pool by preventing persons with infections and contagious diseases, and intoxicated persons from entering the premises. 
  • Issue swimming pool season tickets. 
  • Assists with the cleaning of the ticket office, change-rooms and cloakroom. 
 
Leading Competencies: 
  • Knowledge of cash register operations, cash handling, cleaning knowledge of various general cleaning chemicals.

  • Be able to tolerate stress, written and verbal, good communication, cash register and cleaning skills.

  • Lifeguard Award plus valid retest.

  • Be physically fit and mentally fit;

Primary Function: 
Ensure that a swimming pool operates efficiently and maintains high standards of safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and public relations at the pool. 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Perform rescues and certain administrative duties. 
  • Render First Aid. 
  • Coordinates activities and procedures associated with the monitoring of Public services and the general condition of the facility. 
  • Supervising the cleaning of the premises, operation of the filtration plants, chemical testing of the water, ensuring the safety of the bathers and controlling the behaviour of patrons. 
  • Assist with the Superintendent's duties when same is day off. 
  • Ensure compliance with Swimming Pool By-Laws and Occupational Health and Safety Act. 
  • Assist learn to swim instructors with conducting lessons for aspirant swimmers.

  • Knowledge of lifesaving skills

  • Pool safety and knowledge of chemicals and their use.

Primary Function

  • Manage, direct, and drive processes and policies that support the effective and efficient operation of key functional areas in the support function of the MMC. 
  • Manage and lead the work of staff in the Office of the MMC in their execution of the government blueprint, as determined by the MMC. 
  • Direct and manage the execution of projects and assignments as determined by the MMC.
