SHORT TERM CONTRACT EMPLOYMENT - (STC)
 
The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Community Development Department has the following shortterm contract opportunity for a period NOT exceeding twelve (12) months.
 
The details are as follows:
 
 
Department: Community Development
Branch: Library & Information Services
Designation: Senior Librarian: Mentor/Region A — G (7 positions)
Salary range: Stipend (60 to 100 hours per month @ R222.59/hour)
 
Appointment Requirements
• A 4 year tertiary Library qualification: B.Bibl / B.Inf, or PGDLIS or B Tech (LIS) (NQF level 7);
• Candidates with a three (3) year Technicon Diploma in Librarianship will also be considered;
• A minimum of three (3) years of professional and / or supervisory library experience preferablywithin a computerized library environment;
• Previous experience in staff training, supervision, collection management and experience insections listed under job description below;
• Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written);
• Knowledge of Policies and Procedures of the City of Johannesburg; and
• Valid driver's licence.
 
 
Primary Function:
To assist with specific operations relating to Library and Information Services'functions, focusing on:
• Book stock knowledge, collection management and library house-keeping routines
• Reference and information retrieval skills (print and electronic resources)
• Special collections in the Johannesburg City Library (e.g. Africana, Performing Arts)
• Library extension services and reading development programmes
• Use of the automated library system for circulation and cataloguing
• Basic computer skills
 
Key Performance Areas: Manage and deliver in-service training to library staff in line with LISMinimum Standards.
 
Leading Competencies: Must be able to work under pressure; Work independently and make decision; Accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail.
 
Core Competencies: Customer and Service Delivery Management (Batho Pele) Ethics, Integrity and Professionalism, Impact and Influence and Confidentiality. Good interpersonal and communication skill (verbal and written).
