CEF (SOC) Ltd is involved in the search for appropriate energy solutions to meet the energy needs of South Africa, The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the sub-Saharan African region, focussing on clean energy options as well as fossil fuels as per the mandate from the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. It also manages the operation and development of the oil and gas assets of the South African government including strategic crude oil assets and management. Reporting to the CEF Group COO, the incumbent will be responsible to drive the investment, portfolio management and business development of the organisation. S/he will also lead business Development through providing adequate financial and technical solutions to investment proposals requiring balance sheet or non-recourse or acquisition financing (debt, equity, project and structured finance
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
• Assist in the origination of a pipeline of Energy sector projects, identifying and screening investment opportunities locally and within the continent.
• Responsible for undertaking and managing the required due diligence, financial modelling, risk analysis and mitigation in the structuring of capital/loans, equity investments and guarantees for identified and approved growth/investment opportunities.
• Assess the technical & financial viability and competitiveness of an investment opportunity, execution capacity, legal issues, environmental issues, potential development impact and sustainability of each investment opportunity.
• Lead the development, enhancement and implementation of economic and other quantitative models to predict growth/loss and financial performance in energy demands at both country and global levels.
• Identify and convert the business opportunities prospects that will increase the CEF Group asset base through Mergers & Acquisitions; Equity Investments, Joint Ventures; Private Public Partnerships and Special Purpose Vehicles.
• Develop and implement a policies that will guide and manage how business development opportunities will be managed within the group from Prospect to monetization.
• Identify and convert the business opportunities prospects that will increase the CEF Group asset base through Mergers & Acquisitions; Equity Investments, Joint Ventures; Private Public Partnerships and Special Purpose Vehicles.
• Ensures the alignment of effective implementation of the CEF Group strategies to drive aggressive growth to achieve long-term sustainability
• Grow and increase market share of various CEF Group commodity portfolios (e.g. Renewable Energy, Gas etc).
• Communicate with key funders, clients and other stakeholders on their needs and resolve and respond to their queries
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Degree in Finance/ Accounting/Economics. Master’s Degree in Business/ Financial Sciences will be an added advantage.
• 5 – 8 years within Public Entity or Investment Banking (M&A, corporate finance or project finance) of which 3 years must be in a senior managerial role preferably in the energy sector
• In-depth knowledge of the Energy value chain commodities
• Technically proficient in statistics, economics in the energy fields and its commodities, and of tools used in predictive investments modelling
• In-depth experience and broad understanding of the Clean Energy Sector
• Demonstratable experience of investment process: Origination, screening & due diligence, deal structuring & approval, implementation & monitoring
• Practical skills, experience and demonstrable track record in understanding and developing financial models, statistics, financial formulas and risk models
• Experience in leading the assessment & selection of growth prospects and high conversion rate to monetise them resulting in increased organisational asset base.
