Job Description
CapeNature Conservation seek to appoint a dynamic person to assist with ecological data collection, monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, law enforcement and tourism management at Groot Winterhoek Wilderness.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement Eco-Matrix and Integrated Catchment Management
- Assist with ecological data collections and monitoring
- Assist with invasive alien plant control
- Assist with firefighting operations
- Assist with environmental education
- Assist with maintenance of all infrastructure
Supervisory and Administrative Duties
- Supervise EPWP teams
- Implement Annual Plan of operations
- Support management in effective management of Protected Area
- Do required daily, weekly and monthly administration work, including issuing of permits and receiving of money
- Assist with control and management of assets
Perform Legal Compliance Quality Assurance and OHS
- Carry out law enforcement patrols
- Provide support to Conservation Services during law enforcement operations
- Assist with search and rescue operations
- Implement Occupational Health and Safety policies and guidelines
- Do Environmental Control Officer duties
Infrastructure and Equipment
- Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of infrastructure
- Assist with maintenance and service of facilities
- Maintain vehicles and equipment
- Transport of staff/equipment
Client Care
- Assist with Tourism activities
- Provide visitors with information and interpretation
- Apply basic First Aid
- Assist with gate guard duties, including issuing of permits and receipt of money
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications and Experience
- National Diploma in Nature conservation
- Have an appropriate Field Ranger qualification
- At least 2 years job related experience
- Peace Officers qualification will be advantages
- A valid code B driver’s license with at least 1 year driving experience (EB or EC license &PDP is an added advantage)
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, QGIS)
- Knowledge and experience in working with tourist, maintenance of infrastructure and law enforcement
- Fire Fighting experience and Crew Leader level or higher qualification
Competencies
- Experience in 4x4 driving in mountainous terrain
- Physical fit and ability to effectively perform Field Ranger duties in difficult and physically demanding terrain
- Willingness to work weekend shifts and irregular hours
- Willingness to work and stay remote and isolated environment
- No criminal record
- Strong analytical, strategic and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects and tight deadlines
- Good project planning and organizing skills
- Ability to function independently and within a team
- Computer literacy plus advanced proficiency in MS-Office
- Use of QGIS software
Recommendation:
- Possession of a valid Peace Officer’s certificate, EMI certification or a type of enforcement experience
- National Diploma in Nature Conservation
- Chainsaw & Brushcutter operator certificates
- Basic swimming skills

Job Description
CapeNature seeks to employ a suitably qualified and dedicated Administrative Assistant who would like to contribute meaningfully to work of the EPWP Finance - Asset & Fleet Team of CapeNature. The purpose of this position is to provide sound administrative support to the Transport Officer in the Asset & Fleet Component of the Finance Directorate within CapeNature.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with updating and consolidation of vehicles & ensure condition assessments are regularly performed.
- Facilitates vehicle allocations for Head Office and update the Landscape one as they come.
- Assist in Consolidation for capturing of odometer readings and reconcile invoices for payment.
- Assist with verification of Assets when requested.
- Assist in capturing the losses and follow up with outstanding documents and requests.
- Assist with updating and consolidation of vehicles & ensure condition assessments are regularly performed.
- Perform other administration duties as required by the assigned Transport Officer.
- Facilitates vehicle allocations for Head Office and update the Landscape list as they come.
- Assist in monitoring of reporting and submission of necessary information and documents.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least a Grade 12 (Matric)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office (E-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Sound administrative, financial and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal; writing; and presentation skills.
- Ability to speak two of the Western Cape official languages.
- Ability to work both alone and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn & travel.
- Possession of a valid code 8 driver’s license
RECOMMENDATIONS
