​ACCOUNTANT

Job Purpose:
To provide financial accounting support in the utilization of financial resources and the implementation of fully functioning internal control policies and systems.
 
Minimum Qualification requirements & Experience:
• Recognised BCom Accounting Degree or equivalent qualification.
• 3+ years of financial accounting experience.
 
Key Performance Areas:
  1. Manage monthly standard and general journals.
    • Preparation of standard journals and any other non-routine general journals.
    • Prepare, review, and post monthly and year end journals.
    • Ensure all journals are supported by accurate documentation.

  2. Manage general ledger reconciliation.
    • Preparation of monthly general ledger reconciliation, mainly balance sheets accounts. (Trade payables recons).
    • Perform and review reconciliations of all general ledger accounts.
    • Investigate and resolve reconciling items.

  3. Management of Fixed Assets process.
    • Ensuring that asset recording is in line with Brand South Africa asset management policy and National Treasury regulations.
    • Adding and tagging new assets.
    • Perform asset verification.
    • Maintain the fixed asset register and record acquisitions, disposals, and transfers.
    • Process monthly depreciation and conduct periodic asset verification and process any impairments where necessary.

  4. Manage creditors’ account.
    • Prepare accounts payable- administer creditors’ payments, reconciliation of statements, handle creditors’ queries, manage creditors’ age analysis.
    • Prepare and administer the invoice tracking report to ensure that the creditors are paid within 30 days from the day of receipt of the invoice.
    • Oversee accounts payable processing, reconciliations, and supplier payments.
    • Resolve outstanding supplier queries to maintain sound supplier relations.

  5. Manage revenue collection.
    • Manage revenue collection mainly emanating from billing the invoices for images utilized on behalf of Brand South Africa as well as the partnerships from collaborations billed as per the MoU’s.
    • Ensure timely billing and collection of revenue.
    • Reconcile customer accounts and follow up on outstanding receivables.
    • Implement controls to minimize revenue leakage.

  6. Manage the cashbook and cash flow.
    • Prepare payments and receipts, bank reconciliation, bank balance monitoring, petty cash management.
    • Maintain accurate records of all cashbook transactions.
    • Monitor daily cash flow and prepare forecasts to ensure sufficient liquidity.
    • Reconcile bank accounts monthly and investigate discrepancies.

  7. Provide financial accounting administration services.
    • Process invoices, prepare creditors’ reconciliations, prepare payments requisitions, administer creditors’ age analysis report and attend to creditors’ queries.
    • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, standards, and internal controls.
    • Assist with preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports.
    • Support statutory reporting requirements.

  8. Administer petty cash.
    • Process payments and receipts, prepare a petty cash reconciliation.
    • Manage petty cash disbursements and replenishments.
    • Ensure petty cash transactions are properly authorized and recorded.
    • Reconcile petty cash balances regularly.

  9. Provide general finance administration support.
    • Maintain the accounting record management system.
    • Administer the travel agency account: compile spreadsheets for reconciliations account, process request for motivations from users.
    • Administer the petrol card: authorise petrol expenditure, prepare reconciliation of slips and petrol card.
    • Assist with procurement and payment processes.
    • Support departmental filing, document control, and financial correspondence.
    • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.

  10. Preparation of year end audit file.
    • Preparation of soft and hardcopy audit file for auditors;
    • Assets, Trade payables and recons, cash and cash equivalents and recons, Petty cash recons, expense related.
    • Prepare supporting schedules and reconciliations for the annual audit.
    • Liaise with external auditors and provide required documentation.
    • Address audit queries promptly and ensure deadlines are met.

Job Purpose:
To provide financial accounting support in the utilization of financial resources and the implementation of fully functioning internal control policies and systems.
 
Minimum Qualification requirements & Experience:
• Recognised BCom Honours Degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification.
• 5 years of financial accounting and 3 years management experience.
 
Key Performance Areas:
  1. Implement and maintain financial accounting and internal control systems.
    • Implementation of policy and procedures to prevent unauthorised and irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure, and to manage credibility of transactions on the financial management system.
    • Prepare input related to Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) financial planning processes: Estimate of National Expenditure, draft Brand South Africa budget, compile budget structures and general ledger codes, determine breakdown structure of anticipated revenue and expenditure for the financial year.
    • Provide accurate financial and accounting information for financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP), General Recognised Accounting Practices (GRAP), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), Treasury Regulations (TR), and International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS).

  2. Monitor the risk management process.
    • Monitor finance operational risks and mitigate its impact on the finance department and organisation.

  3. Financial management/oversight and compliance.
    • Review and administer all the accounts payables and receivables and reconciliation on a monthly basis.
    • Implement and maintain financial management and internal control system (assist with policy development, ensure the implementation, investment and cash management, put measures in place to prevent unauthorised, fruitless and irregular expenditure, manage validity of transactions on the financial management system, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts).
    • Prepare financial statements and assist in the audit process in each financial year.
    • Monitor the overall Brand South Africa budget with line managers: ensure that expenditure is in accordance with the business plan.
    • Maintain a financial reporting system: prepare reports on Brand South Africa financial affairs in accordance with General Recognised Accounting Practices (GRAP), Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), and Treasury Regulations (TR), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), prepare report on financial transactions.
    • Ensure standard operating procedures are developed, effectively implemented and aligned to the approved finance policies.
    • Prepare management processes that ensure effective, efficient and economic usage of entity’s resources.
    • Maintaining Brand South Africa assets and maintain the asset register in compliance with Treasury regulations (GRAP,).

  4. Planning and Organising
    • Preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports (on content, financial and staff, etc).

  5. Administer Payroll, statutory payments and returns.
    • Manage the Prepared payroll, statutory returns ensure timely submissions and related items, i.e. manage the payroll preparation and payout (issuing IRP5, EMP501 reconciliation, timely payment of PAYE, Pension and Medical Aid).

  6. Manage the cashbook and cash flow.
    • Manage the Process payments and receipts, bank reconciliation, bank balance monitoring, petty cash management.

  7. Staff management and development.
    • Delegate work assignments and tasks to appropriate individuals, providing sufficient direction so desired business outcomes can be achieved.
    • Implement the Brand South Africa HR policies and procedures as required.
    • Provide direct reports with leadership, direction, and coaching to achieve work objectives and improve performance and skills.
    • Build and manage relationships with staff members.
    • Manage risks and address issues as they arise.
    • Performance Management – ensure that team members achieve their Performance Objectives as per individual agreements.
