SOUTH AFRICAN SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

 

Requirements

  1. Grade 12 plus evidence of a post-matric education towards a qualification as an interpreter, OR
  2. Evidence of at least 5 years of in-service training in an educational setting as a SASL interpreter.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of Sign language experience in an educational environment
  4. Fluency in SASL and English or the language of instruction
  5. Ability to work independently and manage own workload
  6. Ability to adapt to a wide range of speaking and signing styles and preferences of Deaf clients
  7. Good interpersonal skills
  8. Computer literacy in MS Office

 

Responsibilities

  1. Provide Comprehensive SASL interpretation
  2. Academic Support and Material Adaptation
  3. Professional Conduct and Development
  4. Administrative and Advocacy Functions

 

Recommendations

  1. Knowledge of the Deaf community culture
  2. Knowledge of the TVET programs, subjects, and curricula
  3. Working knowledge of the SATI Code of Ethics for SASL interpreters
  4. Registration with SACE & OR South African Translator Institute (SATI)
  5. Valid Driver’s license
