AB Logistics: Durban has a vacancy for a Manager Shipping in within the division. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The management of the Imports, Exports & Domestic Transport divisions’ resources, operational planning, coordination, budgets and the execution of the various activities encompassed in the logistical supply chain, securing the exports and domestic transportation shipments and services.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- To manage the imports export and domestic transport budget and Cost of Sales in a cost effective manner to contribute positively towards Armscor’s deficit in order to generate additional revenue.
- To manage, develop, maintain and motivate individuals and teams and to build constructive relationships between individuals within the division.
- To recruitment, interview, select and maintenance well-qualified staff.
- To do performance management of the team by contracting performance contracts, monitoring performance and provide feedback on performance to all team members.
- To do succession planning for all key positions in the division in order to ensure business continuity.
- To communicate all relevant information to the team member via divisional meetings and all other relevant forms of communication.
- To facilitate effective corporate governance business practices.
- To develop, implement and maintain the risk management plan of the division.
- Must be able to take control as and when required of the daily operations with reference to: – distribution of tasks, adherence to administrative requirements, solving of problems with various Government Authorities, implement alternative arrangements / options where the logistical chain is not progressing.
- To develop processes and global networks to offer our stakeholders a cost effective and comprehensive service.
- To incorporate and implement the various legislations and control requirements into the standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with the various Export Control Regulations, Road Transport Act and SAPS Regulations during Project type shipments e.g. Charter aircraft or related transport of controlled substances and Joint Military Exercises.
- To search, identify and develop shipping opportunities for RSA armaments and explosive type shipments at cost effective rates.
- To attend specialised shipments (e.g. missiles, aircraft spares) containerisation and do the cargo lashing / securing or oversee it been done properly to ensure safety at sea and to minimise the risks associated with these shipments.
- To negotiate favourable freight rates and related shipping costs.
- To compile import, export and road transport quotations for shipments or projects.
- To revise current operational procedures in order to improve operational outputs and customer service.
- To liaise with customers, service providers in order to provide guidance & advice on logistics and shipping matters, make presentations to Foreign Defence Forces with recommendations as to the processes to be followed.
- To ensure adherence and the implementation of the operational Policies, Practices and Procedures.
- To authorize export and domestic transport services:
- Suppliers invoices for payment
- To compile a consolidated AB Logistics invoice to the Customer for settlement
- To manage the disbursement accounts for exports and domestic transport and approve transfer of funds to the income account.
- To manage and liaise with SARS: Customs to liquidate temporary import deposits and cancelation of guarantees held by SARS in order to be refunded to our stakeholders to improve customers’ cash-flow situation.
- Responsible for the various Regulatory requirements applicable during the import and export process, project type shipments e.g. chartered aircraft, or related transport of controlled substances and Joint Military Exercises.
- Responsible for the management and execution of the various activities and processes during the execution of:
- Daily operations of air and sea imports and exports, freight forwarding and customs formalities and liaising with customers and carriers.
QUALIFICATION
- B Com Logistics Degree or
- Diploma in Freight Forwarding or
- FIATA Freight Forwarding Diploma or
- FIATA Higher Diploma in Supply Chain Management
- Project Management qualification will be an advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
- 6- 8 years’ experience which must include experience on supervisory/team leader level
- Extensive experience in Freight Forwarding.
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
- Knowledge of Armscor, the South African Defence Industry, military commodities and the Shipping Industry
- Able to evaluate the shipping challenges and risks associated with the commodity
- Knowledge of relevant Armscor practices and procedures
- Knowledge of the various regulatory requirements relevant to Shipping, Health and Safety, Road transportation, Armaments, Import and Export Control & Customs & Excise

QUALITY REPRESENTATIVE

The QA: Telecommunications division has a vacancy for the Quality Representative within the Quality Department. Applications are invited from people meeting the qualifications and experience requirements set out below:
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
As part of an Integrated Project Team, the incumbent will be responsible to function as the Armscor Quality Representative for non-complex projects at allocated suppliers. The QR will work under limited guidance.
CRITICAL PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Perform acceptance with limited assistance for non-complex projects on behalf of Armscor on products and services to verify conformance to acquisition orders and related documents
- Perform tasks in support of the quality function under limited guidance, such as compiling of check lists, verification plans, etc.)
- Perform verification under limited guidance to confirm that the requirements of acquisition orders, product specifications, procedures and standards are met, for non-complex projects.
- Ensure the integrity of acquisition process activities with periodical assistance through an active involvement on projects and a thorough understanding of the principals involved.
- Generate reports under limited supervision to inform Management on project status, risks and performance (i.e. monthly, quarterly and project reports, industry visit reports, etc.)
- Identify opportunities for quality improvement actions and participate in improvement actions.
- Monitor products, manufacturing processes and maintenance lines at suppliers to confirm that products and processes meet the required standards and specifications.
- Liaise and interface with contractors, project members and clients to ensure quality conformance and time schedules are met.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- National Diploma in Computer Science or Electronics
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 – 4 years’ relevant experience
KNOWLEDGE & FUNCTIONAL SKILLS:
One or more of the following relevant technical areas: Vehicles/Avionics/Ammunition/ Weapons / Aircraft Systems/ General Sensors.
- Engineering design
- Military environment
- Armscor Acquisition process
- Configuration Management
- Acceptance process
- Modelling and simulation
- Software algorithms and optimal procedures. (Only for specific domain areas)
