Major Activities 

Service Excellence

  • Supervise in real-time air traffic services to ensure established safety and efficiency standards are met or exceeded.

Operational Efficiency

  • Balance workloads during shifts by rotating staff, particularly between high-traffic and low-traffic periods to enhance overall operational efficiency
  • Encourage continuous professional development among staff to ensure consistent high level of service delivery.

Operational Coordination and Communication

  • Act as the primary coordinator for addressing unserviceability, liaising with relevant departments such as the FRC, IT, and Airport Authority, in real-time to minimize service disruptions.
  • Diligently manage logs related to unserviceability, including completing NOTAM Requests and maintaining detailed Occurrence Log entries.
  • Participate in daily and ad hoc CAMU CDM teleconferences and other relevant briefings to stay abreast of essential information and developments
  • Engage in tactical-level coordination with other sectors and the CAMU for effective air traffic management, including managing FUA approvals and disseminating critical information to ATCOs on duty.

Safety and Quality Assurance

  • Implement robust safety measures through real-time monitoring of air traffic control service, including immediate provision of relief for ATCOs in the event of a safety incident, and to maintain operational safety in real-time.
  • Participate in safety event investigations and coordinate with the Watch Manager for any delegated tasks.
  • Oversee accurate and timely documentation of safety events, ensuring records are generated promptly while details are still fresh.
  • Promote a "Just Culture" that focuses on learning and continuous improvement, rather than punitive measures, leveraging safety event recordings for training and development purposes.
  • Maintain personal operational proficiency, especially in validated positions, to enable the provision of optimal guidance and air traffic service provision.
  • Ensure that service delivery complies with South African Civil Aviation Regulations, Technical Standards, and ICAO's Standards and Recommended Practices.
  • Investigate and respond to any instances of non-compliance, ensuring corrective action is implemented promptly to maintain service integrity.

Job description

Office Management and Administration - Accurate record keeping. Capture data, maintain confidentiality, and ensure safekeeping. Receive and process ATS staff training requests, ensuring that all required documents reach Human Capital. Process staff licences, ACSA permits and medicals for staff as required. Assist with completion of ACSA permits application for contractors as required. Order, distribute and control stationery and refreshments as per policy stipulations. Process the medical claims of Air Traffic Controllers. Check and respond to e-mails accurately and timeously. Receive and distribute AIP (Aeronautical Information Publication) to stations. Ensure safekeeping of staff licenses as required. Submit staff subsistence and travel (S&T) claims to Payroll timeously.  Ensure that monthly overtime for ATS Staff is captured and processed timeously as per Payroll Process. Perform any other administrative tasks as instructed by the relevant manager.

 

Secretarial Services - Arrange all meetings timeously and inform participants properly of the agenda, venue and time. Distribute all documentation for meetings timeously, namely agenda, minutes of the previous meeting, presentation, etc. to participants. Ensure that meeting packs are professionally prepared.  Take minutes in meetings when required and transcribe.  Distribute the minutes of the meetings within seven working days.  Ensure that documents are typed accurately and timeously.  Arrange travel and accommodation when required to.  Process mail, and receive and dispatch couriered packages.

 

Procurement and Finance Management - Submit purchase requisitions for ATS Operations in accordance with the Procurement process.  Follow-up on official orders with suppliers.  Send all source documents to creditors timeously for payment.  Ensure that all monthly contract payments are done.  Assist Creditors department with updated monthly statements from suppliers and or any other information needed.

 

Quality Management -  Implement ISO procedures as per the Quality Management manual.  Facilitate the review of QMS procedures, directives and instructions.  Publish QMS procedures, directives and instructions on the ATNS portal.  Update notification of changes to filing indexes.  Continuously follow-up on Continuous Improvement Reports. 

 

Stakeholder Relations Management - Develop and maintain sound working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.  Liaise with and engage relevant stakeholders in dealing with issues and queries, and assist with communication to and from the Head’s office.  Deal appropriately with incoming and outgoing instructions and responses to and from the Head’s office.

Job description

Contract Management -Review and ensure efficient allocation of new contract requests in line with ATNS internal policies to ensure compliance with the legal function’s turnover commitment.
