The ARC-Deciduous Fruit, Vines and Wine (ARC-Infruitec-Nietvoorbij) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following positions at Stellenbosch.
JUNIOR RESEARCHER: SOIL AND WATER SCIENCE
Key Performance Areas:
Mainly conducts, coordinates and manage field experiments under the Soil and Water Science program focusing on irrigation of fruit trees, in compliance with set standards, client needs, within budget and on time.
Develop project proposals in line with strategic goals and research themes of the ARC.
Ensure that the allocated personnel and students are mentored, trained, utilized and evaluated in order to achieve the targets of the Programme and ultimately the ARC.
Contribute to the status of the ARC through high quality research findings/products in compliance with expected scientific standards.
Actively identify and pursue business opportunities and participates in the dissemination and marketing of information through national and international publications, conferences, and workshops.
Requirements:
MSc in Agriculture majoring in Agro-Meteorology and or Soil Science.
Knowledge and experience in the field of fruit tree irrigation.
Understanding concept of water use of fruit trees.
Project management, planning and organizing skills.
Experience in popular publications and report writing.
Knowledge in human capacity development and financial management.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to organize, prioritize and work systematically.
A valid driver’s license.

SENIOR STORES CLERK
Key Performance Areas:
All stores and warehousing administration. Issue out and receiving Stock (physical and system).
Managing Stock level, conducting weekly spot checks, monthly stock counts and annually major year counts for closing of financial period.
Investigate for any variances/discrepancies on stock and report to superiors.
Receive deliveries inspect if applicable and dispatch to end-users.
Match delivery Invoice with Order, issue GRN and forward invoice pack for payment.
Follow-up on Open orders and Payments.
Closing of Purchase orders not needed anymore.
Source new suppliers at Institute level and manage the Institute’s Database.
Update existing Suppliers information in the database.

Requirements:

Key Performance Areas:
Render and maintain quality Human Capital administration services that conform to personnel needs and those of the ARC.
Handle Human Capital administration queries.
Coordinate the staff recruitment and selection process, i.e., prepare notice of the interviews, schedule, and coordinate interviews, conduct reference checks, prepare interview reports, offer letters and employment contracts.

TRACTOR DRIVER
Key Performance Areas:
Working on a tractor with various implements.
Ensure proper soil preparation is done accurately, timeously and in a professional manner.
Safe transportation of workers, farm produce, fertilizers, and other farm equipment.
Pruning, suckering, canopy management and harvesting of fruit trees / vineyards.
Basic maintenance of the tractor, implements, irrigation & trellis systems.
Reporting of any symptoms of defects and breakages on the tractor & implements.
Time management with execution of individual & team tasks.
Record keeping of day-to-day work done, diesel usage, spraying programs.
Assist with general farm work.
Comply with all requirements of the OHS Act.
Requirements:
Grade 10
3-5 years’ experience as a tractor operator.
Good reading and writing skills.
Valid B Drivers Licence is to your advantage.
FARM ASSISTANT
Key Performance Areas:
Pruning-, suckering and canopy management of fruit trees, harvesting and irrigation.
Be able to plant new orchard blocks, assist with the forming of young trees.
Ensuring that the correct pruning methods are used and that research work is being done according to the researchers’ instructions.
Assist with planting of trees, trellis systems, irrigation systems, forming of trees.
Apply irrigation, fertilizers, chemical sprays, and cover crops as per instructions.
Assist with the maintenance of security fences, trellis- and irrigation systems.
Assist with general farm work.
Assist maintenance team with repairs of farm buildings.
Report any problems, discrepancies, and neglect immediately to Farm Manager.
Work throughout ripening and harvesting season periods.
Apply the health & safety requirements as expected from the work environment.
Willing to work overtime to optimize work.
Requirements:
Grade 10.
3 years’ experience working on a Fruit Farm.
Must be able to read and write.

SENIOR BUYER: SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
(6 MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
Key Performance Areas:
Adhere to the PFMA, treasury regulations; PPPFA and other procurement related legislation.
Obtain quotations in line with the Supply Chain management policy of the ARC.
Ensure internal control compliance with ARC policies and the relevant legislation.
Handling of internal and/or external audit requests including communication with other stakeholders.
Sourcing and evaluating relevant suppliers from the central database.
Ensure that risks related to procurement management are adequately addressed.
Follow up on unpaid suppliers and ensure invoices are settled within 30 days.
Requirements:
Bachelor Degree/ B Tech or National Diploma in Supply Chain with 3-4 years’ experience as a buyer, acquisition officer.
