Job Description
  • Supervise and co-ordinate of all activities in the ELISA laboratory and scullery.
  • Perform stock taking, make orders for reagents and consumables, and assist with compilation of CAPEX requirements.
  • Prepare reagents and plates for in-house tests.
  • Provide diagnostic services by testing diagnostic samples.
  • Provide research support by testing research samples.
  • Transfer technology with special reference to training in diagnostic assay performance and other related skills.
  • Perform quality assurance duties and deputise the quality assurance officer.
  • Perform biosafety and biosecurity duties.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Perform other work-related duties.
 
Job Requirements
  • MTech. Degree (or equivalent NQF7) with 2 years’ applicable experience; or B degree or B Hons degree. B.Tech., or National Higher Diploma (or equivalent NQF6) with 6 years. Applicable experience; or National Diploma (3 years) (or equivalent NQF5)
    with 8 years applicable experience.
  • A master’s degree in microbiology/biotechnology/related fields will be an advantage.
  • Registration with SAVC is a must. 
  • Professional membership: SAVC registration.
  • Knowledge of veterinary and zoonotic viral pathogens and diseases.
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Job Description
  • Project Management & Coordination: The Researcher is responsible for conducting research projects on plant tissue culture method development and optimization, and in vitro propagation techniques (such as somatic embryogenesis, meristem culture, etc.) for mass propagation, in vitro breeding, and virus elimination across the Institute. These include the following aspects of the projects; Research planning and initiation, Equipment and Research Materials , Project Human Resources , Project Finances, Risk Management and Mitigation, Monitoring, Evaluation, reporting and project close out.
  • Research development and Innovation: The Researcher is responsible for conducting research, development and supporting innovation. These include supporting the following research aspects: Invention, Translation, Commercialization, Adoption and Use  
  • Research Collaboration: The Researcher is responsible for supporting strategic research collaboration and collaboration opportunities. These include strategic research partnerships, networks and collaborators, intra-inter institutional collaboration and partnerships.
 
Job Requirements
  • PhD in Plant Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Production, Botany, Horticulture, or closely related fields.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in plant tissue culture –related research and 3 relevant peer reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrable experience in plant tissue culture method development and validation.
  • Demonstrable experience in project management, postgraduate student supervision or mentoring.
  • Agricultural research knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in external income generation related to economic plants (including essential oil and industrial plants) propagation and cultivation R&D is an added advantage.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Computer literacy.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.

Job Description
  • Liaison with the project Managers and Research Team Managers as a link between Finance and Core.
  • Assist project managers with cost management accounting by applying the best practice.
  • Assist Project and Programme managers with the preparation and loading and compile the forecast report.
  • Capture the budget revision where necessary.
  • Ensure that financial risks are well identified and adequately addressed.
  • Ensure that the contract register for all active and signed contracts is kept.
  • Ensure that all active, but expired contracts are supported by an addendum.
  • Ensure proper closing of completed contracts on the system.
  • Compile and evaluate the performance report of each project.
  • Ensure that all audit queries are attended to and resolve as soon as possible.
  • Prepare financial reports and proof of income reports to the funder.
  • Maintain project related records.
  • Assist the Finance Manager in all matters that need the project accountants’ input.
  • Assist in mapping all employees to specific project (s), the correct managers and hours allocated to the correct project.
  • Ensure that time sheets are done for all projects.
  • Ensure that all the log sheets are captured by deadline.
  • Manage all externally funded projects to avoid operational losses and report losses to the campus Finance Manager.
  • Ensure income recognition is done in terms of the applicable accounting standards for all externally funded projects.
  • Ensure that all transactions are processed timeously, and proper accruals are put through.
  • Maintain project related records.
  • Prepare financial reports and proof of income reports to the funder.
  • Maintain the project related data in SAGE X3.
  • Provide leadership and initiatives in the cost and management environment.
  • To comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Prepare monthly accounts reconciliations.
  • Assists with updating of Fixed Asset register.
 
Job Requirements
  • BCom degree or National Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting or equivalent qualification / AAT.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in the finance or project management environment.
  • Good analytical skills, report writing and organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of project contracts, project costing and accounting.
  • In Depth Knowledge of Public Financial Management Act, Treasury Regulations, Agricultural Research Act and GRAP.
  • Attention to detail and deadline driven.
  • Supervisory skills. Good customer relations.
  • Exposure to SAGE X3 ERP will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Research planning and management of research projects (Genomics): At least 3 years’ experience in a relevant scientific research environment, post MSc with a national record of accomplishment on the level of a researcher.
  • Collaboration: Record of building national and international partnerships and networks. The researchers work under guidance and with support of seniors.
  • Initiation, planning and execution of Genomics research projects.
  • Minimum 3-5 peer reviewed publications or number of publications should be equivalent to what was required from master’s and PhD level for their field respectively.
  • Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage.
  • Proven record of accomplishment for generating external income for projects in line with requirements on master’s and PhD level. In this respect proven record of writing of proposals as part of master's and PhD studies.
  • Proven record of participating as speaker nationally as part of master's and PhD level. Must be able to show competence in presenting research results.
  • Proven record for financial management of projects.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and supervising/supervising other researchers and students.
