AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and fosters innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. The ARC-Natural Resources and Engineering (ARC-NRE) seeks to appoint a highly experienced and dynamic person to the following position based in Arcadia & Silverton, Pretoria:
HUMAN CAPITAL MANAGEMENT ADMINISTRATOR
Key Performance Areas:
Recruitment and Selection:
• Provide logistical support and advice on recruitment and selection procedures to the line and departmental managers.
• Implementation of HCM policies and procedures in line with relevant legislature.
• Administering of recruitment and selection procedures and processes (including but not limited to; assisting the new employees with on-boarding documentation; preparing Payroll advises on new employees etc.) Promote positive employee relations and employee engagement.
Administration of employee condition of services:
• Appointment and Terminations of employees – send inputs to Payroll Office.
• Render and maintain a quality human resources administrative service that conforms to personnel needs and those of the organisation.
• Management of employee probation,
• Administration of employee’s Medical Aid and- IOD’s in line with COIDA.
• Capturing of overtime, standby and preparing monthly Clock Cards.
• Liaise with Provident and Pension Funds to ensure that employees receive their benefits.
• Administration of leave and Attending to all HCM and ESS related enquiries.
Personnel Training and Development:
• Coordinate the application processes relating to all training.
• Coordinate the Performance Management processes in the institute and derive Institute Training Plans.
• Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual training reports (WSPs and ATRs).
• Maintain training records for all types of training and liaise with Central Office HRD department.
Requirements:
• National Diploma/Degree in Human Resource Management or related.
• Minimum of two years related experience in Human Resource environment.
• Proficiency in MS Office Communication skills and computer literacy skills.
• A Team Player with a positive attitude and the ability to work independently, accurately, and reliably.
• A high degree of integrity and confidentiality as well as flexible approach to a busy workload.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task without losing the overview.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• People and Business Management skills.
• Good communication skills (written and verbal).
• Valid driver’s licence (code 08/EB).

The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Irene, Pretoria:
DOCTORAL (PHD) STUDENT– ANIMAL BREEDING AND GENETICS (THREE (3) YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)
Key Performance Areas:
Undertake R&D in genetics and genomics applicable to animal genetic improvement.
Planning, executing and coordinating research projects.
Receiving and capturing of samples, and maintaining the research database for current and future use.
Publishing peer-reviewed articles in good journals and semi-scientific articles to all stakeholders and the related industry.
Compilation of reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Draw up monthly reports and manage research budgets in alignment with the departmental operational plan.
Disseminating research results in oral and poster presentations; establishes and maintains networking opportunities e.g., attend scientific conferences, stakeholder workshops and engagements.
Participate in the marketing and dissemination of information (farmer’s days, seminars, workshops, courses, radio, TV, etc.).
Participate in advisory services, farmer’s days and workshops.
Community engagement and administration.
Administration duties such compilation of reports under supervision and timely attendance of stakeholder correspondences and queries.
Mentoring of undergraduate and intern students.
Assists in training of support staff.
Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities.
Comply with SHE/OHS policies and procedures.
Requirements:
A Master’s Degree in Animal Science, or closely related fields.
Professional membership (SASAS and/or SACNASP).
National scientific recognition.
Public speaking (presentations, radio, poster exhibits).
Scientific publications: at least one (1) peer-reviewed/popular article.
Strong interest in animal breeding and genetics practices and tools for animal improvement.
Analytic and statistical ability, including familiarity with the UNIX/LINUX operating system, some programming skills using for example R-CRAN, or related programming languages.
Knowledge of genomics tools, including analytical methods for processing SNP genotype data.
Ability to work independently, in a team, and to collaborate with national and international research partners.
Ability to work and organize tasks according to schedule, and timely delivery.
Ability to work under pressure.
Sound interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) enthusiastic and responsible.
A valid driver’s licence.
