The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic persons to the following positions at Irene, Pretoria: 
 
SENIOR STORES CLERK 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Report to the Supply Chain Accountant. 
  • Receive goods and Generate goods receipt notes. 
  • Issue goods to end-users. 
  • Follow up on outstanding deliveries and close purchase orders. 
  • Match delivery notes, purchase orders and invoices. 
  • Submit documents to Finance. 
  • Conduct stock take and Issue stock. 
  • Ensure monthly reconciliation of stock. 
  • Post journals. 
  • Oversee disposal of stock and assets. 
 
Requirements: 
  • Three-year National Diploma in Logistics or equivalent. 
  • 2 years relevant experience in supply chain management. 
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Office Suite.

The ARC-Plant Health and Protection (ARC-PHP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic person to the following position at Roodeplaat, Pretoria. 
 
SENIOR RESEARCH TECHNICIAN - BIOSYSTEMATICS 
(THREE (3) YEAR FIXED CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
Provide support with activities in migrating data associated with the National Public Good Assets (NPGA) housed at the ARC-PHP to the Specify collection management software. Which include: 
  • Geo-referencing of data already captured in preparation for the migration of data to Specify 6.
  • Cleaning and standardising of data to prepare for the migration of data to Specify 6. 
  • Interacting with end users and ICT to assist with the migration to Specify 6. 
  • Assist with the curation of other associated data that could be linked to specimens in the NPGA databases, e.g. sequence data, images of specimens, etc. 
  • Help develop data management policies, SOPs, and workflows all NPGA collections/databases. 
  • Engage regularly with the Natural Science Collection Facility (NSCF) to help facilitate the above. 
  • General assistance with database management and assistant to ensure data capturing is ongoing once the migration is completed. 
  • Experience with Open Refine, MS Excel, MS Access and QGIS software will be beneficial. 
  • Experience with Specify 6 will be beneficial. 
 
Requirements: 
  • Master’s Degree in Biology or related field. 
  • A valid code 08/EB driver’s licence.

DOCTORAL STUDENT- GASTRO-INTESTINAL MICROBIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY (THREE (3) YEARS FIXED CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
  • Undertake PhD studies on biocontrol’s applicable to plant health improvement. 
  • Participate in planning, implementation and coordinating of biocontrol’s trials in different solanaceous plants species. 
  • Publishing peer-reviewed articles in good journals and semi-scientific articles. 
  • Compilation of reports for internal stakeholders. 
  • Capturing of samples and maintaining the research database for current and future use. 
  • Contribute to research by rendering desired support to research staff. 
  • Draw up monthly reports and manage research budgets in alignment with the departmental operational plan. 
  • Disseminate project results through, scientific or popular publications, conferences (oral and poster presentations) and peer reviewed publications. 
 
Requirements: 
  • MSc in Biology / Microbiology / Virology / Biotechnology. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct research at postgraduate level.

  • Ability to work independently, in a team, and to collaborate with other national research partners.

The ARC the ARC-Vegetable, Industrial & Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP), seeks to appoint highly skilled, experienced, and dynamic persons to the following position in the new project funded by the National Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) at Roodeplaat Pretoria: 
 
PROJECT MANAGER 
((3) THREE YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
Planning & Development 
• Planning the scope, objectives, deliverables of a large Programme for the ARC (more than 210 projects) in collaboration with senior and/or executive management and stakeholders. 
• Develop detailed project implementation, monitoring and evaluation and coordination plans/frameworks that identifies and sequences the activities required to implement the Programme and complete projects/project activities successfully. 
• Collaborate with research teams, finance-, supply chain-, human capital development- and facilities management teams across the ARC to prioritise project tasks and deliverables. 
• Monitor Projects/Programme progress and develop progress reports for senior and executive management of the ARC and relevant governance committees (e.g., technical, and steering committees, etc.) with recommended actions. 
• Develop a planning and reporting framework and schedules for the Projects/Programme in collaboration with the senior manager and executive managers and governance committees. 
• Coordinate and facilitate reporting framework for the Projects/Programme in line with the budgeting and reporting cycles of the ARC and the client. 
• Coordinate the development and finalisation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports related to the Projects/Programme. 
• Risk assessment and mitigation plan for Projects/Programme implementation to manage the risks, develop a mitigation plan, monitor implementation, and do quarterly risk report for the programme. 
• Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects. 
• Ensure that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget. 
• Delegate project tasks based on members’ individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels. 
 
Budget Management: 
• Develop a project budget for monitoring and evaluation. 
• Together with the CFO and all other respective finance managers develop a monitoring framework for project expenditures and reporting on deviations. 
 
Schedule Management:
• Design a project schedule for the SLA, develop a monitoring tool and framework and ensure regular updates, and adjust it as required. 
• Schedule all relevant progress reporting meetings and ensure projects progress are monitored continuously and provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to management and the client. 
• Ensure that the project is running on time, and promptly communicate delays to all stakeholders together with a mitigation plan. 
 
Team Leadership: 
• Direct and managing project teams, providing guidance, and ensuring resource allocation. 
• Facilitate team meetings within the ARC and between the ARC and the client for status updates and problem-solving sessions monthly, quarterly, and annually. 
 
Risk Management: 
• Systematically identify potential project risks and implement pre-emptive actions. 
• Ensure that all operations adhere to legal standards and safety regulations. 
 
Quality Control: 
• Develop and Institute quality control processes to ensure that all tasks related to the management of the projects meet the required project management standards. 
• Conduct regular progress reviews, ensuring compliance with the project specifications and monitoring that project deliver according to defined deliverables. 
 
Documentation: 
• Oversee the compilation of all project documentation, ensuring that all data are accurate and up to date and kept for record keeping. 
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation. 
 
Stakeholder Communication 
• Facilitate continuous communication, providing stakeholders with regular updates on project status. 
• Address and resolve any issues or concerns raised by stakeholders. 
• Facilitate progress meetings between the ARC and stakeholders and ensure clear communication consistent with expectations of the client. 
 
Requirements:
  • A relevant bachelor’s degree (i.e., Project Management, Engineering, Science, etc). 
  • An honours, master’s degree or Ph.D. will be advantageous. 
  • Knowledge of research or engineering infrastructure relating to a science Institution will be advantageous. 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)/PRINCE II certification will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills. 
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing and coordinating large projects/programmes. 
  • International experience, particularly in challenging environments or diverse cultures will be an added advantage. 
  • Proven track record of developing and reporting and monitoring frameworks, reporting of consolidated and reviewed Performance, consolidating high level progress and risk reports and developing mitigation plans. 
  • Knowledge of guiding Frameworks and Policies from Government (DPME, National Treasury etc.). 
  • Experience with internal and external (AGSA) audit processes. 
  • Exposure in the agriculture, research and development environment will be an advantage. 
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite and all others relevant to Project/Programme management.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to present/communicate the project status to all stakeholders including the executive level.
