The ARCVegetables, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP) seeks to appoint a highly experienced and dynamic persons to the following positions at Roodeplaat in Gauteng Province: 
 
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN PLANT BREEDING X3: LEGUMINOUS, LEAFY AND FRUIT VEGETABLES 
(3 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Compiling and executing technical activity plans, 
 Plan, conduct and supervise the execution and collection of data of glasshouse and field trials, 
 Capture and process technical data with basic analysis, 
 Compile technical reports, 
 Manage project facilities, material and equipment and ensure optimal utilization of resources. 
 Assist with compiling and managing project budgets, 
 Develops technical capacity at an appropriate level, 
 Identifies and participates in own learning opportunities. 
 Assist in rendering diagnostic, technical or other services at a national level, 
 Assist with organisation of scientific or marketing events, and Participate in transfer of technology and promotion in the form of presentations, posters, workshops, training, products, services, literature, information days, courses and other events. 
 Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures. 
 
Requirements: 
 BSc degree or National Diploma (3 years) in Horticulture / Plant Breeding / Plant Production; or a relevant 2-year qualification at a recognised institution with 3 years applicable experience, 
 Ability to set-up and manage research trials under open-field conditions, 
 Good understanding of weed control, soil cultivation methods, fertilization, spraying for disease and pest control, irrigation systems (installation, operation and maintenance), and sustainable field management, 
 Experience and good understanding of commercial and legumes/indigenous vegetable production will be an added advantage, 
 Experience and good understanding of plant breeding will be an added advantage,
 Good understanding of irrigation scheduling and use of soil water content monitoring equipment will be an added advantage, 
 Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills, 
 Proficiency in Ms Office Suite, 
 Compliance to safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 
 A valid driver’s licence.

The ARC- Vegetable, Industrial and Medicinal Plants (ARC-VIMP) seeks to appoint three highly skilled, experienced and dynamic persons to the following contract positions at Roodeplaat, Pretoria: 
 
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN CROP PROTECTION (X3): LEGUMINOUS, LEAFY AND FRUIT VEGETABLES- (3-YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT). 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Compiling and executing technical activity plans, 
 Plan, conduct and supervise the execution and collection of data of laboratory, glasshouse and field trials, 
 Plan, conduct and supervise the isolation/extraction of plant pathogen (viruses, bacteria and fungi) samples from various agricultural crops, 
 Process samples for pathogen/s (viruses, bacteria and fungi) identification and characterization, 
 Capture and process technical data for analysis with different computer programs, 
 Compile technical reports, 
 Manage laboratory facilities, material and equipment and ensure the optimal utilization of resources, 
 Assist with buying of consumables using Microsoft Dynamics AX program 
 Assist with compiling and managing project budgets, 
 Stock taking of consumables and other laboratory reagents, 
 Supervise and develop technical capacity of Research Assistants, 
 Participation in scientific marketing events of the organisation, 
 Participate in technology transfer and promotion of research activities in the form of presentations, posters, workshops, training, products, services, literature, information days, courses and other events. 
 
Requirements: 
 Qualification: MSc, MTech, BSc degree, BSc(Hons), BTech, postgraduate diploma (or equivalent), advanced diploma or National Diploma (3 years) in microbiology, plant pathology, crop protection, biotechnology, or related field, 
 Relevant experience (1 year and more) in technical aspects of plant pathology and plant microbial-related molecular biology techniques, 
 Experience and good understanding of quality assurance systems and seed testing will be an added advantage, 
 Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills, 
 Proficiency computer literacy, 
 Compliance to safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 
 A valid driver’s license.

HYGIENE ASSISTANT – LEGUMINOUS, LEAFY AND FRUIT VEGETABLES, CROP PROTECTION LABORATORIES (3 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT) 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 General cleaning of all areas in the building (i.e. dusting, sweeping, mopping, polishing, cleaning windows and walls), 
 Ensure that relevant laboratory glassware and equipment is cleaned, maintained, and stored correctly. 
 Washing of laboratory coats and replenishment of other PPE in designated areas,
 Emptying of dustbins on a daily basis, 
 Compliance with cleaning best practice and with all Occupational Health and Safety & Environment (OHSE) regulations as well as HCM policies and procedures. 
 
Requirements: 
 Qualification: Grade 10 plus 3 years relevant experience in cleaning of laboratory and office space, 
 Basic understanding of different types of waste, 
 Experience in cleaning general laboratory equipment will be an added advantage,
 Good verbal communication skills, 
 Compliance with safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
