The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following positions at Irene, Pretoria:
 
RESEARCHER: ANIMAL NUTRITION POULTRY- RE-ADVERT
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Source collaborations with stakeholders in the industry and maintain networking opportunities,
 Ensure successful transfer of scientific technology i.e. compilation of reports, oral and poster presentations,
 Participate in writing publications in line with the competency profile (i.e. author/co-author for scientific paper every year),
 Participate in the project in a learning capacity and supervise as delegated,
 Utilise and maintain facilities, apparatus and equipment,
 Comply with the Occupational Health and Safely policies and procedures,
 Compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports,
 Initiate, manage and contribute towards national projects,
 Participate in information dissemination activities aimed at informing the industry.
 
Requirements:
 PhD Degree in Animal Science specialising in Poultry Nutrition or an MSc with 5 years’ experience and extensive publications in poultry nutrition,
 Experience in technical poultry nutrition role including involvement within the poultry industry,
 Have a sound knowledge in diet formulation including the use of feed additives as well as practical hands-on on the ground farm-management experience,
 Strictly registration with SACNASP as a Professional Animal Scientist,
 Leadership skills, people manager; strategic mind set, team player and commercial acumens,
 Experience in technology transfer through popular and peer-reviewed articles, presentations and demonstrations,
 Knowledge on safety standards as prescribed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act,
 Good communication skills (both verbal and writing) and the ability to work in a team,
 A valid South African driver’s licence.

SENIOR RESEARCHER: CROP PROTECTION – ENTOMOLOGY (RE-ADVERT)
 
Key Performance Areas:
 Initiates, coordinates, and manages projects,
 Coordinates project plan with the Research Team Manager,
 Manages people within projects, and ensures optimal utilization,
 Compiles and manages project budgets,
 Plans and coordinates technical projects,
 Manages projects facilities, material, and equipment,
 Ensures optimal utilization of resources,
 Strategic planning of future sources,
 Strategic planning of future resources,
 Independently conducts specialist research/technical support, diagnostics, and other services across projects,
 Manages data collection,
 Performs advanced analysis, interpretation and makes internal and external recommendations,
 Compiles detailed reports, provide comprehensive recommendations and approves final reports,
 Manages and ensures compliance to quality standards,
 Presents results to stakeholders as an authority (advances/trains),
 Optimises and implements equipment and/or processes and /or systems,
 Recommends and makes decisions regarding new technologies,
 Renders expert diagnostic, technical and other services, and consults at a national/international level,
 Exploits intellectual property developments and assists in its development,
 Identifies and pursues new business opportunities,
 Meet peer norm requirements for specific field of expertise, by recognising authorship or contributions,

Requirements:
 PhD in Entomology or PhD in Zoology or Biology or Biological Science with Entomology as major,
 5 years post qualification experience,
 8 relevant peer reviewed publications in Entomology,
 Proven record of national and international scientific recognition,
 Evidence of student training will be an added advantage,
 Registration with a scientific professional body will be an added advantage,
 Knowledge about insect control in grain crops, insect rearing and insect resistance.

 Render expert diagnostic, technical and other services and consults at a national/international level,

 Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedures,

Requirements:
 PhD in Plant Breeding / Molecular Breeding / Genetics with Plant Breeding as a major,
 Five (5) years post -qualification experience,
 8 (eight) relevant peer reviewed publications or alternatively, (1) one released cultivar in lieu of each publication,
 Evidence of sourcing or obtaining research funds will be an added advantage,
 Evidence of student training will be an added advantage.
