Key Performance Areas: 
 Manage the provision and maintenance of Buildings and Infrastructure.

 Ensure effective and efficient Assets, Equipment and Contract Management.

Key Performance Areas: 
Provide support with activities in the National Collection Fungi and research laboratory these includes: 
 Preparation of chemicals solutions and growth media. 
 DNA extraction, PCR and sanger sequence analyses from fungi strains and soil. 
 Cleaning and washing glassware. 
 Collecting, storing and stocktaking of research materials. 
 General laboratory maintenance. 
 
Provide support in the mycology NPGA collections by: 
 Preservation of newly accessioned material in PHP and PREM collections.

 The incumbent will be responsible for the management of the beekeeping apiary sites.

Key Performance Areas: 
 Independent sample collection on field trips across South Africa. 
 Carry out viral diagnostics using molecular assays according to set protocols or develop new diagnostic tools, including nucleic acid (DNA/RNA) extraction and various diagnostic assays, including ELISA, (q) RT-PCR, PCR, LAMP, RPA and next generation sequencing. 
 Carry out infection trials using agro inoculation and insect-mediated infection and monitor symptom development over a growing season. 
 Compliance with general health and safety regulations; demonstrate safe use of safety equipment, safe application of surface sterilizers, sanitizers and pesticides. 
 Attention to detail and work accuracy, ability to work under pressure and handling of high work load at times and provide support for interns, MSc and PhD students.

 Routine checking, and reporting on maintenance issues of irrigation and cooling systems in tunnel facilities. 
 Harvesting and packaging of biocontrol agents. 
 Keeping the facility and tools clean. 
 Assist with maintenance of insect cultures in the mass rearing facilities.

 Assist with mass-rearing of multiple insect biocontrol agents on Parthenium hysterophorus and Chromolaena odorata
 Watering of plants exposed to insects in rearing facilities. 
 Other basic daily activities as per instruction and training. 
 Maintenance of stock and test plants in holding facilities (propagation, re-potting, watering, application of fertilizers, pruning, weed - and pest control). 
 Cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment and facilities. 
 Record keeping for insect and plant production.

 Occasional fieldwork with technicians and researchers including multi-day trips for field trials and the release of biocontrol agents.
