AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
 
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa. 
 
The ARC-Animal Production (ARC-AP) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Irene, Pretoria: 
 
SENIOR RESEARCHER: DAIRY NUTRITION 
 
 
Key Performance Areas: 
 Initiate, manage, conduct and direct research to ensure successful completion of research projects/programmes in compliance with the set standards and to optimally utilize all resources in a cost effective manner, 
 Successful initiation (proposals) and completion of research programmes/projects contained in the business plan of the Research Campus in line with overall Corporate Programmes and Strategy of the ARC, 
 Initiate and conduct research while providing research direction in the division. These include proposal writing and supervision of Researchers and Technicians, 
 Exercise quality control over the research progress and project outputs, including facilities utilised, 
 Initiate, manage and conduct research on the manufacturing practices, maturing of dairy products, products development etc. as well as technology transfer, personnel management, entails effective utilization of staff, personnel evaluation, building and maintaining project teams and exercising discipline when necessary, 
 Manage and control the financial budget for research. 
 
 
Requirements:
 PhD degree in Animal Science with specialization in Ruminant/Dairy Nutrition, 
 Minimum 5 years relevant experience in technical, nutrition role including involved within the dairy industry, 
 National scientific recognition: Presentations at scientific and/or non-scientific forums and registration with SACNASP as a Professional Natural Scientist will be an advantage, 
 Should be in possession of more than 5 publications in peer reviewed journals as author or co-author. The publications should be related to either dairy or ruminant nutrition, 
 Public speaking (presentations, radio, poster exhibits) at workshop/meetings/forums, tertiary institution, courses including talks/lectures, 
 Promoter and reviewer of scientific papers (Ad hoc), 
 A valid SA driver’s license, 
 Experience in the supervision of post-graduates will be an advantage.
