AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. The ARC- Onderstepoort Veterinary Research (ARC– OVR) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following positions at Pretoria:
RESEARCHER VETERINARIAN
Key Performance Areas:
Liaise with Senior Research Technicians on samples received, availability of all material and human resources to enable successful and timeous test performance and results issuing,
Make inventory of all challenges experienced in the section, discuss them with the section head and find solutions,
Authorise diagnostic, surveillance, breeding soundness and import/export reports on time,
Authorise proficiency test scheme (PTS) reports and be part of root cause analysis in case of failed PT,
Liaise with clients with regard to their queries about animal diseases and diagnostic tests,
Identify research projects, apply for funding, conduct research, present and publish research findings,
Train local and international candidates who come to ARC for training on diagnostic test performance,
Take care of animal health and welfare needs of all animals used for research and diagnostics, and conduct animal based research,
Fulfil all quality assurance duties to maintain accreditation and increase accreditation scope, including the writing and reviewing of SOPs and test validation,

Ability to liaise with clients on animal diseases and give advice on diagnostic aspects of diseases, perform diagnostic tests, conduct national disease surveillance tests,
Perform own research, support other research, facilitate animal movement and trade, and ensure food security and safety through breeding soundness tests performed, and those done to rule out zoonotic diseases, and train people,
Adhere to OHS rules and regulations.
Requirements:
BVSc/BVMCh/BVM Veterinary degree,
Registered with SAVC,
2 years’ work experience as a veterinarian would be an advantage,
Good communication skills written and verbal,
Supervisory experience.
