AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.
The ARC-Grain Crops (ARC-GC) seeks to appoint a highly skilled, experienced and dynamic person to the following position at Potchefstroom:
RESEARCHER: CROP PROTECTION X 2
Key Performance Areas:
• Initiates, manages and contributes towards national projects,
• Identifies the need for human resources in project’s and manages the allocated resources,
• Compile and manage the project budget,
• Write research proposals, actively sources new national research opportunities and writes proposals,
• Plans and co-ordinates research with single or multi-disciplinary team,
• Identifies the need for resources equipment and material in project’s and manages them accordingly,
• Conduct research, manage, capture and analyse data, interpret and make recommendations,
• Compiles detailed reports and seeks approval for final reports,
• Disseminates research results by presenting oral and poster contribution,
• Publishes semi-scientific and peer reviewed reports/articles,
• Render diagnostic and advisory services at a national level,
• Participates in the marketing and disseminating of information attends scientific gatherings, works with farmer communities, seminar, workshops, courses, radio, TV etc,
• Build and maintains relationships with national stakeholders and strategic partners to secure funds,
• Develops capacity at an appropriate level within or outside the realm of projects,
• Ensures compliance with SHE/OHS policies and procedure, Manage facilities and infrastructure pertaining to research activities,
• Build and maintain relationships with national stakeholders and strategic partners to secure funds,
• Meets peer norm requirements for specific field of expertise, with a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication per year for PhD
• Supervise and mentor experiential trainees and post-graduate students 1 x PhD or 2 x MSc every 5 years.
Requirements:
• Relevant PhD or MSc with 5 years’ work experience and extensive publications,
• Knowledge of chemical weed control and weed science in grain crops is mandatory,
• Registration with a scientific and professional body will be an added advantage,
• Valid driver’s license.
