AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a premier science institution that conducts research with partners, develops human capital and foster innovation in support of the agricultural sector. It provides diagnostic, laboratory, analytical, agricultural engineering services, post-harvest technology development, agrochemical evaluation, consultation and advisory services, food processing technology services as well as various surveys and training interventions. Through its wider network of research institutes and experimental farms, the ARC provides a strong scientific base and a broadly distributed technology transfer capacity to the entire agricultural industry in South Africa.
The ARC- Tropical and Subtropical Crops (ARC-TSC) seeks to appoint experienced and dynamic persons to the following positions at Hluhluwe research farm in Kwa-Zulu Natal province:
FARM ASSISTANTS X3 HLUHLUWE RESEARCH FARM
Salary - (R107 288 – R160 932 all-inclusive remuneration package p.a)
Key Performance Areas:
Carrying out of Farm practices as directed by the Farm management and/or a Researcher,
Use and maintenance of tools and equipment that are made available,
Carrying out of manual tasks as assigned by Supervisors,
Observance of Occupational Health and Safety instructions on the use of the appropriate protective clothing.
Requirements:
Grade 10 certificate with 2 years’ experience and/ or exposure to the fruit farming environment,
Understanding of basic agricultural practices,
Basic knowledge on manual operation of farm equipment and machinery,
Experience in the construction industry (plumbing, carpentry, building etc) will be an added advantage,
Good communication skills written and verbal,
Good understanding of health and safety procedures,
Willing to work under adverse weather conditions.
