Agrément South Africa (ASA) seeks to fill the following vacancy based in Pretoria:
SPECIALIST: RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT (PERMANENT)
Remuneration: R 603 377 per annum (All-inclusive Cost to Company) Reference Number : ASA00100/2025
Closing date : 12 December 2025
Purpose:
To perform Research and Development investigations and analysis in the Technical Division of Agrément South Africa to evaluate the fitness of non-standardised construction products, materials, and systems against performance-based criteria.
Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Research and Development
- Perform Research and Development within the Technical Division.
- Provide research support to Agrément South Africa's Technical Services Department.
- Initiate and carry out research projects concerning the performance-in-use of innovative building technologies.
- Compile and present research reports to internal committees of the Board.
- Conduct feasibility studies and develop business models to inform new business lines.
- Market and promote Agrément-certified innovative products and systems through stakeholder engagements.
- Develop and maintain relationships and networks with international, national, and provincial research institutes, institutions of higher learning, and researchers within the public, private and built environment sectors.
- Provide support and participate in Agrément’s Industry Advisory Committee.
- Verification of Agrément's Directory of Certificates.
- Develop and maintain certification schemes.
- Design surveys for division-wide priorities and initiatives.
- Conduct document review, organisation, and quality control of data acquisition to draw relevant conclusions and direct research activities.
- Determine the performance-in-use of Agrément-certified products and systems for technical services and through market and usage analysis.
Technical Assessment
- Ascertain whether the Agrément requirements follow the necessary steps/ process involved in the certification process.
- Identify any new and innovative processes or developments being used by clients.
- Participate in the certification approval process as a member of the Agrement Technical Committee representing R&D when required.
- Review and develop performance criteria for non-standardised construction-related products and systems.
- Develop tools that can improve the processes for certification of non-standardised products and systems.
Quality Assurance
- Support the implementation and adherence to Agrement’s quality assurance Policy, Procedures and Standards:
- Ensure that the technical outputs of the R&D technical team are reviewed and of a high standard and high quality so that the credibility of the certification process is maintained.
- Implementation of compliance with appropriate management and system requirements.
- Maintain a sound records-keeping system.
Knowledge
- Provide and develop a level of R&D expertise and knowledge by:
- Seek training and develop own skills.
- Supporting staff development.
- Provide training and advice on R&D related topics to the technical staff.
- Network and maintain links with R&D specialists in the Built Environment.
- Monitor industry changes/developments and ensure that the Technical Division is aware of these developments.
- Deliver technical presentations as an R&D Specialist in the Built Industry
- Built environment technical knowledge.
- Research process basics.
Ad-Hoc Duties
- Perform any responsible tasks given by the R&D Group Leader
- Participation in Bid Evaluation Committees.
- Marketing and promotion of ASA-certified products and systems
- Stakeholder relations development and management of industry partners (at international, national, and provincial levels). discipline
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Degree in a Built environment
- 5 Years’ experience
- Professional Registration
Ideal
- Honours/ postgraduate degree
- 8 Years’ experience
Managerial and Technical Competencies:
- Knowledge and understanding of PAIA, Public Service, Records and Archiving standards.
