REQUIREMENTS : Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice). Inherent requirement of the job: Participation in commuted overtime (after-hours emergency services) is compulsory. A valid driver’s license is required. Registrars may be rotated through affiliated departments across various training sites, including facilities within outreach programmes such as Paarl and Worcester Regional Hospitals, as well as Khayelitsha, Helderberg, Eerste River, and Karl Bremer District Hospitals, in line with training programme requirements. Candidates must be willing to participate in the Termination of Pregnancy services according to the relevant act. Applicants must have a valid CMSA (College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) FCOG part 1. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Appropriate post-community service experience in obstetrics and gynaecology (under onsite supervision of a registered obstetrician gynaecologist). Clinical experience with adult as well as neonatal intubation and resuscitation is required. Ability to do a Caesarean section independently and to work in a professional team. Basic obstetric ultrasound certification, or a letter from a specialist confirming competence in obstetric ultrasound, supported by a logbook of cases performed. 

 

DUTIES : Deliver a high-quality clinical service to patients and their families. Supervise junior medical staff to ensure optimal standards of care and clinical outcomes. Provide ongoing clinical teaching and mentoring of junior staff during routine service delivery. Participate in both formal and informal teaching of undergraduate medical students. Successfully complete the CMSA FCOG Intermediate examination within 18 months of appointment. Pass the CMSA FCOG Part II examination before completion of the five-year contract.
