Duties and responsibilities: 

•    Provide formal teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the Department of Childhood Education. 

•    Act as a supervisor for postgraduate students in the relevant field. 

•    Engage in the Work Integrated Learning Programme of the faculty (Teaching Practice). 

•    Ensure active involvement in research in a relevant field of Childhood Education and publish research articles in accredited national and international journals. 

•    Active involvement in curriculum development relating to the relevant field of Childhood Education. 

•    Apply for external funding grants for research and/or teaching and learning projects. 

•    Mentor and support junior colleagues in the department and faculty. 

•    Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks in the department and faculty. 

 

Inherent requirements:

Associate Professor

•    A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Education with specialisation in Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase. 

•    At least five (5) years relevant experience in a Higher Education Environment.

•    Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.

•    Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.

•    Acted as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.

•    Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.

•    An NRF rating or potential for rating.

•    Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.

•    A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals

•    Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

•    Proven experience in curriculum and/or programme development.

•    Evidence of attracting research and/or training grants in the past 5 years.

•    Proven experience in co-leading one or more collaborative research projects in the past 5 years.

Professor

•    A relevant Doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Education with specialisation in Childhood Education and/or Foundation Phase. 

•    At least seven (7) years relevant experience in a Higher Education Environment.

•    Experience as external examiner for master’s-degree and doctoral students.

•    Acted as editorial board member of high-quality international/ISI/IBSS journals.

•    Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a particular area of academic scholarship (for example, regularly serves as a reviewer for international/ISI/IBSS journals).

•    An NRF rating or potential for rating.

•    Demonstrated successful supervision of graduated master’s-degree and preferably graduated doctoral students.

•    Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences.

•    Served as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher-education levels.

•    Proven experience in curriculum and/or programme development.

•    Evidence of attracting external research and/or training grants in the past 5 years.

•    Proven experience in leading one or more collaborative research projects as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI in the past 5 years.

 

Recommendations:

•    Experience in the use of different research methodologies and/or data analysis tools

Inherent Job Requirements:

Lecturer

•    A PhD on NQF Level 10 in Practical Theology with specialisation in Pastoral Care and Counselling, evident from the PhD research project, or a PhD in a similar Theology/Religion degree or in Psychology with specialisation in Pastoral Care and Counselling or a related discipline

or

•    Master’s degree on NQF Level 9 in Practical Theology or Psychology with specialisation in Pastoral Care and Counselling or related discipline. 

•    Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.

•    Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.

•    A good academic record (attach a copy).

 

Recommendations:

Postgraduate training and specialisation in Practical Theology or Psychology with a focus on Pastoral Care  and Counselling.

•    Preference will be given to applicants who have completed an undergraduate theology degree or a BA General degree with both psychology and theology modules.

•    A record of undergraduate theological training.

•    Registration at the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a general counsellor, which implies the ability to supervise counselling students during internships (This suggests a completed honours degree in Psychology)(attach proof).

•    Preference will be given to a Counsel for Pastoral and Spiritual Counselling (CPSC) registration, no lower than Designation Level 4: Religious specialist (Affiliate with the Association of Christian Religious Practitioners (ACRP)) (attach proof).

•    Preference will be given to at least one (1) year of teaching experience in a higher education environment, on both an undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Inherent Job Requirements

•    Demonstrated experience in managing capacity development, academic development or researcher development programmes.

Description

The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for  postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic or professional career in statistical research, with special research interest in bayesian modelling and mixed models are encouraged to apply. 

The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicants' academic achievements, publication outputs and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of one year, renewable for up to three years subject to satisfactory performance..


Duties and responsibilities:

•    Conduct innovative research in actuarial applications of likelihood-based statistical inference for heavy-tailed distributions under censoring and truncation modelling.

•    Author/co-author of at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books. Renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and submission of an annual progress report.

•    Initiate projects and seek funding for them.

•    Register and reside as a postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the Department of Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Sciences.

 

Eligibility criteria

•    Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State. 

•    Graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years.

•    Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.

•    Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.

Value of the fellowship:

•    R 270,000 annual fellowship.

•    R 30,000 additional research expenses fund.

Duties and responsibilities: 

•    Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Comparative Education, Education Management and Leadership and Teacher Education in general.

•    Participate in the Work Integrated Learning programme of the faculty (Teaching Practice).

•    Engage in research activities of the faculty and produce research outputs in accredited journals and other outlets.

•    Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Comparative Education, specifically.

•    Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

•    Work in a team with colleagues within the faculty.

•    Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the faculty.

 

Inherent requirements:

Lecturer

•    A relevant doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 with a focus on Comparative Education (for a permanent appointment).  

or

•    Master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with a focus on Comparative Education (contract appointment: five years during which a relevant doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 with a focus on Comparative Education MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent appointment). 

•    Candidates must submit proof of registration for a doctoral degree with a focus on Comparative Education. (attach a copy)

•    Candidates should submit an abstract of their thesis (or dissertation) to indicate relevance to the field of Comparative Education. (attach a copy)

•    A formal teaching qualification (e.g. Advanced Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent) (attach a copy).

•    A minimum of five (5) years relevant working experience in a school environment or at least two (2) years in a higher education or research and development environment.

•    Provide evidence of manuscript (s) produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

•    Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.

 

Recommendations:

•    Member of a or registration at a professional body.

•    Member of a national or international scholarly society or committee.

•    A proven research record of relevant publications in national or international Q1-Q4 accredited journals,

•    Experience in postgraduate supervision.
