RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be expected to fulfil the duties of a Lecturer in the Department Early Childhood Education as described in the minimum requirements. These duties include:

  • Curriculum development and lecturing of modules in the programme(s) based in the Department;
  • Pursuing research activities such as own research, research-based publications and the supervision of postgraduate students registered in the Department;
  • Developing, presenting and co-ordinating undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance programmes;
  • Mentoring students for practice teaching/work integrated learning;
  • Using a learning management system to develop and present courses;
  • Presenting lectures and programmes in an E-learning environment;
  • Providing a significant contribution to research outputs, postgraduate teaching and supervision.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • M Ed in Early Childhood Education / Foundation Phase or equivalent degree;
  • At least 1 year teaching experience in Early Childhood Education and Foundation Phase; 
  • Evidence of some experience in a community, Work-Integrated Learning, or service-learning project related to Education within the last 5 years;
  • Evidence of ability to conduct research;
  • Experience in academic administration.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of the following; 
  • South African education system and policy framework on Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase Education;
  • Knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase Education programmes and approaches in Inclusive Education, Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN), and Learning Support; 
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and supervision;
  • Ability to work as an individual and in a team.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

•    Teaching experience at a Higher Education Institution in Early Childhood Development programmes and Foundation Phase Education; 

•    Knowledge and experience in application of indigenous knowledge systems in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase; 

•    Knowledge and experience in integration of digital technology, especially coding and robotics, in Early Childhood Development programmes and Foundation Phase education; 

•    PhD in Early Childhood Education  Foundation Phase, or equivalent degree;

     Current PhD registration in Early Childhood Education/Foundation Phase or equivalent degree;

•    Experience of teaching practice of work-integrated learning;

•    Ability and/or experience in conducting own research, and evidence of research publications;

•    Experience and expertise in curriculum development for all subjects in Early Childhood Education and Foundation Phase; 

•    Experience in curriculum development initiatives;

•    Knowledge and experience of facilitation in an E-learning environment;

•    Experience of supervision of postgraduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be expected to:

  • Engage in teaching, curriculum development, and co-ordination of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Supervise postgraduate research commensurate with the post level;
  • Supervise practical work in the relevant MA professional programmes;
  • Provide professional services (such as assessment, counselling/psychotherapy, and/or related performance support interventions) at the UP Sport, Exercise Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) as determined by the Head of Department; 
  • Conduct research commensurate with the level of appointment and actively contribute to the Department’s research profile;

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • A Master’s degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology;
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist for at least 3 years; 
  • The equivalent of two years’ tertiary teaching experience, including block and/or temporary teaching, or relevant professional/industry experience
  • Evidence of research productivity (e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in peer-reviewed books, published conference papers, or equivalent recognised research outputs; significant progress in PhD studies)

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Professional practice experience as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist;
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering interventions in the field of Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology; 
  • Proven ability to lecture in at least two, but preferably more, of the following areas at the undergraduate level: introductory psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, developmental psychology, community psychology, critical psychology; 
  • Demonstrated research focus aligned with departmental thematic areas.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

  • A doctoral degree (PhD) in Psychology;
  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling Psychologist for at least 3 years; 
  • At least 7 years’ tertiary teaching or professional experience.
  • Evidence of successful curriculum design, implementation and leadership.
  • Demonstrated research output, as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent;

  • Evidence of external examination of modules and postgraduate research.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in linguistics and literature in isiZulu; 
  • Supervise Master’s and Doctoral students;
  • Participate in curriculum development and redesign of undergraduate and postgraduate modules and programmes as required;
  • Conduct and present research at local and international conferences;
  • Publish articles in accredited (and preferably high-impact) journals;  
  • Conduct academic administration and other duties, as determined by the Head of Department;
  • Participate in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research, and community engagement;
  • Participate in academic citizenship (e.g., peer reviewing, moderation, and external examination);
  • Provide academic leadership and mentoring; and
  • Participate in generating third-stream income for the department.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A doctoral degree in African languages, specializing in isiZulu; 
  • Seven to ten years teaching experience (undergraduate and postgraduate level) appropriate to the appointed position; 
  • Evidence of extensive supervision to completion of Master’s and Doctoral students; 
  • A proven record of research and publication outputs in a relevant field of specialisation, e.g., isiZulu literature or linguistics, appropriate to the post level;
  • International recognition as an expert in the discipline;
  • Evidence of successful curriculum design, implementation, and transformation

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Ability to function in a dynamic multilingual, multicultural environment; 
  • Language and communication skills appropriate to the academic environment;

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Ensure all relevant benefit codes are activated on permanent appointments;
  • Ensure that back pay is correctly calculated, including related deductions where applicable;
  • Review and sign off on payslips after input by the relevant payroll officers;
  • Process and review payroll reports for terminations, secondary appointments and leave credits;
  • Review the reports on medical aid, duplicate primary job rows, and multiple active tax records, then run the exception reports to find discrepancies between member and employee records for active tax records and UIF status — investigating and correcting any exceptions found;
  • Set up monthly cut-off calendar dates on the Human Capital System; 
  • Update the Payroll System with new month's payroll run;
  • Monitor and run daily payroll executions to ensure completeness of payroll expense;
  • Liaise and ensure that submitted files are approved for the payroll month and signed off by the relevant personnel;
  • Run and review the daily comparison between the Human Capital System and Psiber Payroll, investigate variances, and resolve or escalate discrepancies timeously;
  • Review exception reports for monthly tax, unemployment insurance fund and skills development levies and resolve differences;
  • Review any errors from the Labour department; 
  • Reconcile interim cash focus payments to actual monies paid to employees, and compile a monthly reconciliation of all interim payments;
  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day work allocation of Payroll Officer, ensuring adherence to payroll deadlines, internal controls, and compliance with the relevant legislation regarding income tax, unemployment insurance fund and skills development levies;
  • Manage leave for reporting staff, including planning and approving leave applications to ensure adequate team coverage throughout the payroll cycle;
  • Manage the performance development of reporting staff, including setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, and identifying training and development needs;
  • Adhere and comply with internal control measures and audit procedures;
  • Test processes and controls on relevant programs created for payroll exception reports;
  • Conduct a review of all third-party recons and to ensure that payments balance to the system deduction totals. Ensure that member contributions and employer contributions compare to total deductions, taking cognisance of required adjustments on the recons;
  • Balance the monthly salary control accounts to relevant recons and deductions totals;
  • Verify daily that all postdoctoral (Post Doc) payments are correctly processed.

 

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BCom degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources; 
  • Four (4) years’ experiences in the following:
  • Payroll experience;
  • Financial experience;
  • ERP Payroll System Experience.

BACKGROUND:

To provide a specialist service for the administration and management of the Computational Cluster, Mass Storage, Server Infrastructure and Internal Network for the Centre for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. To ensure availability of Bioinformatics Compute Cluster server resources and Lustre storage systems to researchers, post-graduate students and collaborators. To set up and maintain Linux desktop machines in the Centre for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology for research and training, together with the relevant applications.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Bioinformatics High Performance Computing Support:

At all times, the highest priority is on ensuring optimal uptime and continuity for all research and student programs. Downtimes are devastating for both academic and research timelines and budgets, and should be avoided at all cost. 

  • Operating system installation and maintenance:
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (e.g., Linux) on the Bioinformatics HPC cluster nodes;
  • Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to ensure the stability and security of the system;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operating system-related issues; 
  • Cluster management, system installation and maintenance:
  • Deploy, configure, and manage cluster management software (e.g., Slurm, Torque) to allocate computing resources efficiently;
  • Monitor system performance and optimise cluster utilisation;
  • Implement and maintain job scheduling policies to meet the diverse needs of researchers; 
  • Cluster internal network management:
  • Configure and manage internal network infrastructure for optimal performance and reliability including a high-performance InfiniBand network;
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues, and implement solutions as necessary;
  • Ensure effective communication between cluster nodes and storage systems;
  • Cluster storage management:
  • Administer storage solutions (e.g., ZFS, Lustre on ZFS) for high-performance data access and storage – intimate knowledge of ZFS and Lustre storage management is a requirement, both for main storage and backup system;
  • Allocate and manage storage resources according to research requirements; 
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery strategies to safeguard research data (e.g., Lustre, Bacula); 
  • User management:
  • Custom LDAP tree widely implemented in many standard and custom systems;
  • Provide user support and assistance in accessing and utilising HPC resources;
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and quotas;
  • Offer guidance on best practices for efficient utilisation of HPC resources;

  • Bioinformatics Other Support:
  • Monitor and maintain reporting and monitoring system for all serves and desktop machines;
  • Monitor and maintain backup power systems and liaise with backup power team at facilities management;
  • Install and maintain auxiliary servers (typically VM’s) for Mail Forwarding (smtp), time services (NTP), user authentication (LDAP), mass file transport (FTP and Globus);
  • Constantly (24x7x52) monitor vital resources for the server environment, such as temperatures, power, UPS health, and take immediate remedial action when required, such as emergency shutdown of all servers, and subsequent start up and stabilization of all systems as soon as possible;
  • Central HPC infrastructure Support:
  • Provide user support and assistance in accessing and utilising HPC resources:
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and quotas;
  • Offer guidance on best practices for efficient utilisation of HPC resources;
  • Documentation development and training;
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for Bioinformatics HPC system configuration, usage, and troubleshooting procedures;
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate researchers on HPC best practices and utilisation techniques; 
  • Application support:
  • Assist researchers in installing, configuring, and optimising scientific applications and tools on the Bioinformatics HPC cluster;

  • Relevant Bachelors/BTech degree in Computer Science or related field with at least three (3) years’ relevant experience; OR
  • Relevant National Diploma in Computer Science or related field with at least five (5) years’ relevant experience;
  • Proven experience in the following:
  • Administering and managing HPC clusters in a research or academic environment;
  • Linux system administration and shell scripting;

The incumbent will be responsible for:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • CA(SA) qualification; OR 
  • Master’s degree in the Auditing field that includes a research component;
  • Relevant tertiary lecturing experience or at least 3 years of practical industry experience.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Master’s degree in the broader Auditing field and/or Forensic investigation/ Forensic Accounting and registered as a CA(SA), ACCA, or CIA OR
  • A relevant doctorate degree in the broader Auditing field or in Forensic investigation/ Forensic Accounting related field; 
  • AND in addition to the above:
  • At least 3 years relevant tertiary teaching or industry experience and demonstrated competence;
  • At least 2 accredited publications and/or equivalent recognised scholarly outputs (accepted and/or published);
  • At least 2 completed Master’s students delivered or involvement with PhD supervision; and
