DIRECTOR: NEW INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Organisational Unit

University of Mpumalanga -> New Infrastructure Projects -> Project Management

 

Job Primary Purpose

The main purpose of this position : The Director's main responsibilities are to ensure that:- - construction projects are managed and implemented by Project Managers in accordance with the approved contracts and construction programmes. - Construction contractors works orders are issued to contractors in accordance with Governance Framework of the University. - Task Orders to Built environment professionals are issued in accordance with the governance framework of the University.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Implement and monitor construction projects in accordance with the approved by-weekly construction projects schedule.
  • Maintain and revise construction contracts programmes in accordance with approved contract requirements.
  • Monitor that payments recommended by Project Managers to contractors and built environment professionals are in accordance with progress made at various construction sites.
  • Monitor full compliance of construction projects to regulatory requirements, e.g., Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management Act.
  • Develop and Maintain Annual Performance Plans(APP) in accordance with the University's reporting requirements.
  • Report project progress on construction projects timeously to various statutory bodies, Manco, FPIC (Facilities, Planning Infrastructure Committee), Vice Chancellor and Department of Higher Education (DHET) and Training in line with the values of the university.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A relevant 4-year Bachelor Degree in Built Environment.
  • A Master's degree in Business Management.

 

Certification and Professional Registrations:

  • Professional Registration with one of the Built Environment Councils.

 

Minimum Experience: 

  • A minimum nine (9) years work experience in Construction Project Management, that is inclusive with a Built Environment professional body, implementation of the NEC form of construction contracts, and leading the management of large-scale construction projects.

Qualifications

Doctoral qualification in Computer Science or any ICT related field.

Teaching experience

Professor required a minimum of 15 years of teaching experience at the University with at least five (05) years in a leadership position.

An Associate Professor requires a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at University with at least three (03) years in a leadership position.

Research

An outstanding record or research outputs including publication in

accredited high-impact national and

international journals. Invited to present at national and international

conferences. An extensive

record of postgraduate supervision at Masters' and Doctoral level with

students publishing their research. A substantial track record of national

and international fund raising for research.

The main purpose of this position is to contribute to teaching and learning, research and innovation, engagement, leadership and administration at the discipline, school and faculty level.

Provision of theoretically informed and pedagogically sound teaching based on current research.  

Research

Research and the production of accredited research outputs. Postgraduate supervision leading to the graduation of Masters' and Doctoral students in the minimum time.

Participation in learned societies.  Some application of disciplinary/professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of the external community.

 

Minimum Requirements:
