In support of the strategic objectives of the School of Health Care Sciences and the Department of Pharmacy, suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for lecturer in pharmaceutical chemistry positions. 

·       Masters /MTech degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences 

·       Strong background in Pharmaceutical Chemistry 

·       Experience in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students

·       A good knowledge and experience in teaching chemistry in integrated clinical pharmacology for pharmacy PBL curriculum 

·       A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at an institution of higher education 

·       Evidence of active participation in research and scholarly activities, with a minimum of two (2) peer-reviewed publications. 

·       Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and manage multiple academic responsibilities 

·       Good communication, organisational, and problem solving skills

Duties and responsibilities 

·       Facilitate teaching and coordinate Pharmaceutical Chemistry modules within the BPharm programme 

·       Development, review, and alignment of study guides, learner materials, and assessments in line with university and SAPC requirements 

·       Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects 

·       Coordination and liaison with senior laboratory technicians in the planning and implementation of Pharmaceutical Chemistry related practicals 

·       Engagement in own research, including publication in accredited journals and presentation at national and international conferences 

·       Contribute to community engagement initiatives and integrate community engagement interventions into pharmacy curriculum 

·       Contribute to academic student development by identifying students at risk timeously and develop intervention strategies, monitor student progress and make necessary referrals 

·       Provide consultative services to post graduate students and staff 

·       Participation in departmental, faculty, and institutional administrative duties 

·       Execution of any other academic or administrative tasks as delegated by the Head of Department

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Human Anatomy 

• Experience working in Human Anatomy Lab for a minimum of two (2) years 

• A minimum one (2) year teaching/laboratory experience at an institution of higher education will be an added advantage. 

• Computer literacy. 

• Deadline driven, ability to multi-task, organise, plan and work under pressure.

• Communication and problem-solving skills. 

• Membership to the Anatomical Society of Southern Africa will be an added advantage. 

 

Duties:

• Engage in own research study, publish and present results at national and international conferences. 

• Online teaching, online assessment, and venue-based teaching as well as venue-based assessments of Human Anatomy students in theory and practice. 

• Designing of study materials and learner guides for Human Anatomy students. 

• Performing all administrative duties related to teaching and learning and community engagement, as delegated by the Coordinator and/or Head of Department

FACULTY OF HUMANITIES 

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (TWO POSTS) 

 

The University of Limpopo (UL) invites applications for two (2) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship positions under the DSTI/NRF South African Research Chair Initiative (SARChI) in Liberation Heritage and Politics, hosted in the Faculty of Humanities. 

The Fellowships aim to strengthen the University's research and intellectual environment while providing structured postdoctoral training for recent doctoral graduates, supporting the development of advanced research skills, publication output, community-engaged scholarship, and preparation for academic careers. 

Linked to SDG 4 (Quality Education), the Chair seeks to transcend the traditional view of liberation as a closed historical chapter, instead positioning liberation heritage as a vital, living data set derived from both empirical archives and indigenous oralities. 

This approach allows the Chair to navigate the complexities of contemporary citizenship and the future of African society by utilising the Limpopo Province (a critical, yet under-theorized frontline of the liberation struggle) as its primary empirical laboratory. 

 

The Fellowships are tenable for two (2) years, commencing as soon as possible. 

Qualifications and requirements: 

·       A PhD degree (NQF Level 10) in Politics, History, African Studies or a related field, completed within the last five (5) years. 

·       Evidence of research productivity including peer-reviewed publications. 

·       Demonstrated interest in African liberation heritage and politics. 

·       Strong written and oral communication skills, good computer and data management skills, and the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Successful candidates will: 

• Conduct high-quality, interdisciplinary research aligned with the SARChI agenda. 

• Publish in DHET-accredited journals and peer-reviewed books. 

• Contribute to community engagement projects of SARChI. 

• Participate in empirical field work research in different settings. 

• Assist with postgraduate supervision and mentorship. 

• Support grant proposal development and national and international collaborations. 

• Contribute to policy briefs and knowledge translation outputs. 

• Participate in seminars and activities that promote a strong research culture. 

• Comply with research ethics, governance, and data management requirements. 

• Represent the SARChI Chair at academic forums and conferences, where appropriate.

LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST: IMMUNOLOGY 

 

Minimum Requirements 

·       Qualifications: B.Sc. in Medical Sciences specialising in Immunology or B.Tech in Clinical pathology majoring in Serology or Immunology. 

·       Work Experience: At least a 2-years’ experience in the preparation and supervision of immunology practical sessions at tertiary level. 

 

Optional requirements 

·       Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Scientist or Medical Laboratory scientist will serve as an advantage 

 

Knowledge, Skills: 

·       Knowledge of immunological laboratory techniques and methods including ELISA, RIA, IRMA, Flow cytometry, Immuno-electrophoresis, Immuno-diffusion, and maintenance of cell cultures. 

·       Knowledge in procurement procedures. 

·       Knowledge of Quality Assurance in the Laboratory. 

·       Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice. 

·       Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice.

·       Develop relevant SOPs and maintain laboratory equipment in the Immunology laboratory as outlined in the SOPs. 

·       Ensure Quality assurance in the Immunology laboratory. 

·       Audit Laboratory consumables and equipment. 

·       Request quotations for laboratory consumables and equipment. 

·       Order reagents, laboratory consumables and equipment 

·       Give laboratory technical assistance to final year and postgraduate students 

·       Participate in departmental/ interdepartmental/ Interschool/ interuniversity collaborative research

·       Experience in teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students

·       Demonstrated sound knowledge and experience in teaching Pharmacology within Clinical Pharmacy modules, particularly in a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum 

·       A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at an institution of higher education

DIRECTOR: INSTITUTIONAL ADVACEMENT AND RESOURCE MOBILISATION 

(Five-year fixed term performance-based contract) 

 

The University of Limpopo invites applications for the position of Director: Institutional Advancement and Resource Mobilisation. Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, the Director will provide strategic leadership and direction to the portfolio with a view to repositioning the University for growth and development by maximising philanthropic income, brand positioning and stakeholder engagement. The incumbent will take overall responsibility for the development and execution of an Institutional Advancement Strategy and Institutional Advancement Strategic Fundraising Plan with a focus on fundraising, donor and corporate relations, alumni relations, institutional partnerships (regionally, nationally, continentally and globally). 

The incumbent will work closely with Council, Senate, Senior Management, Convocation and Alumni Relations, Academic Leadership, and other University structures to provide leadership in all matters within the portfolio. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

Qualifications

·       A relevant Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Business Management or Management, Marketing or Communications or related field. 

 

Experience

·       A minimum of fifteen (15) years progressive experience in institutional advancement or fundraising and at least five (5) years must be at a management level within an area of relevance to the portfolio. 

·       A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management role of relevance to the institutional advance or fundraising portfolio. 

·       Experience in conceptualising and executing capital raising campaigns, endowment building and institutional repositioning efforts. 

·       Demonstrable experience in stakeholder engagement, boards, donors, senior corporate leadership and external stakeholders. 

·       Ability to drive execution of, and translate, the Institutional Advancement and Fundraising Plan into measurable outcomes 

·       A proven track record of leading and delivering a significant fundraising growth, including securing major corporate funding and philanthropic income. 

·       A demonstrable track record in securing significant funding (e.g. approximately R50 million) over a 3-5 year period. 

·       Proven experience in team management and leadership, and evidence of working with senior leadership and external partners. 

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES 

·       A thorough understanding of the national higher education system, policies, and dynamics; 

·       Ability to represent the University at strategic high level discussions and negotiations in the higher education sector, as well as the ability to portray a positive image of the University; 

·       An outstanding track record of integrity, strong leadership qualities, a proven record of a successful academic career in higher education; 

·       Excellent fundraising, marketing and communication skills and passion for the University’s mission of becoming a leading university, providing quality education; 

·       An ability to combine firm management and a harmonious relationship with academic colleagues and students; and 

·       Understanding of and commitment to the strategic transformation needs in the higher education landscape. 

 

DURATION

The appointment is for a fixed term of five (5) years with possible renewal for a further term of five years, subject to a satisfactory work performance review. A competitive annual remuneration package, including benefits, will be offered.

Retirement age: 

The average retirement age for members of the Senior Management is 65. Consideration will be given to candidates who would be able to serve a 5-year term at the time of appointment and complete the same before the age of 65.

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE 

PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT 

Lecturer: Medical Biochemistry 

 

Requirements:

·       MSc (Master’s in Medical Science) degree or equivalent Master’s degree in Medical Biochemistry 

·       Experience working in a Medical Biochemistry Lab for a minimum of two (2) years 

·       A minimum of two (2) years teaching/laboratory experience at an institution of higher education. 

·       Experience in e-learning teaching/evaluation 

·       Experience in student supervision and/or proof of peer-reviewed publication 

·       Experience in assessment and moderation. 

·       Willingness to register for a PhD degree in the relevant field 

·       Membership to the South African Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB) will be an added advantage. 

 

Duties:

·       Apply a variety of teaching styles to teach Nutritional Biochemistry at undergraduate level 

·       Develop study materials and learner guides for Medical Biochemistry students. 

·       Participate in curriculum development, design and updating study materials. 

·       Assess students, identify at-risk-students and facilitate appropriate intervention. 

·       Organise module files and maintain records of all academic activities. 

·       Assist final-year students and provide mentorship.
