Job description

The School of Medicine wishes to appoint a Specialist in Public Health Medicine with additional training in Medical Law and Bioethics who will contribute actively to the training and education of undergraduate medical students, registrars in Public Health Medicine (MMed), and Postgraduate students in Public Health, and to build the knowledge base of the department. Coordination and facilitation of teaching activities within the department is required.

 

Minimum requirements

FOR BOTH POSTS 

  • MBChB or equivalent
  • A PhD Degree in Public Health/ Medical Law and Bioethics
  • Registration as a Specialist in Public Health Medicine with the HPCSA
  • A relevant Master's degree in Public Health Medicine
  • 3 years’ experience in Public Health-related skills, including Epidemiology, Health Services Management
  • Appropriate clinical experience.
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid driver’s licence

In addition, the following will be applicable depending on the level of appointment:

  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience and curriculum development experience in a relevant field at tertiary level.

Job description

The School of Education is globally recognised for its world-class programs in pre-service teacher education, adult education, workplace learning, and higher education. We are committed to offering teacher education that is appropriate to both national and global contexts, of a high quality, and accessible to a diverse range of students. 

The School of Education seeks to employ a dedicated individual who will coordinate and lecture modules in History Education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise and assess undergraduate teaching practice, and will supervise postgraduate students. The position requires an academic willing to engage in curriculum development and delivery, and who will play a leading role in teaching and research in the History Education discipline. 

The incumbent will report to the Head of Discipline: Social Sciences and Commerce Education. 

 

Minimum requirements

  • A Doctoral degree in History Education or related Disciplines.
  • Three (3) years working experience in either Teaching, Lecturing, Research or Industry (in the relevant field or discipline).
  • Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals (5 - 10), appropriate for the level.
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and/or PhD level appropriate for the level
