uMngeni-uThukela Water was gazetted by the Minister of Water and Sanitation and established, with effect the 01st July 2023, through the reconfiguration of Mhlathuze Water and Umgeni Water. The core business of the entity is to provide bulk water and related services to other water services institutions and customers in its gazetted service area covering the entire Kwa-Zulu Natal province. The entity operates in accordance with the Water Services Act (Act 108 of 1997) and the Public Finance Management Act (Act 1 of 1999), among others, and is categorised as a National Government Business Enterprise. uMngeni-uThukela reports directly to the Minister of Water and Sanitation, through the Board (Accounting Authority) and through its functionaries, the Chairperson of the Board and the Chief Executive.

 

Reporting:

Suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for the position of Accountant - Compliance, reporting to the Manager – Financial Compliance & Internal controls and whose key characteristics are mentioned below.

 

Purpose of the job:

To ensure financial operations and reporting adhere to statutory regulations, internal policies, and industry standards * To focus on monitoring compliance with financial controls, tax legislation, and regulatory requirements, and assisting in audits and risk mitigation activities.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance * Audit and Internal Controls * Financial Reporting Support * Risk Management * Stakeholder Engagement.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Matric with Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Registered or eligible for registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., SAICA, SAIPA.

 

Minimum Experience:

A minimum  of 3–5 years' experience in accounting, compliance, or audit * Experience with tax compliance and regulatory reporting.

 

Technical and Functional Competencies:

Strong knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards * Sound understanding of tax legislation (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax, etc.) * Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems) * Advanced Microsoft Excel skills * Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability * Strong attention to detail and accuracy * Good communication and report writing skills * Ability to manage time and work under pressure.

Purpose of the job:

To perform maintenance functions as required, develop corrective measures, and implement Renewal and Capex projects to optimize the functionality of all operational assets.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Optimization of maintenance function * Manage equipment technical information * Maintain standards and specifications * Analysis of equipment failure * Perform and analyse condition assessments * Project Management.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Matric with S4 Diploma Mechanical Engineering.

 

Minimum Experience:

A minimum of 5 years’ work related experience in a mechanical engineering environment, of which two (2) must have been spent working under the supervision of a mechanical technician. * Be in possession of an unendorsed Code 08/EB motor licence.

 

Technical and Functional Competencies:

The ability to perform tasks which require sound attention to detail principles. * Proficiency in mechanical design and project management. *Project management – the ability to facilitate multi-disciplinary projects.  * Sound financial acumen to assist wi

th the compilation of operational budgets  * Comprehensive knowledge and application of computer software packages for data manipulation and communication. * The ability to quickly and accurately identify and analyse problems and provide sound solutions.
