Position Purpose
The purpose of the position is to ensure the financial information in the general ledger is complete, accurate, timeous and complies with applicable reporting framework, primarily the International Financial Reporting Standards. Together with the Senior Manager: Financial Accounting and External Reporting, this position ensures that new IFRSs are understood, interpreted, and effectively implemented by the organisation, and leads such implementation by coordinating relevant stakeholders.
Assists the Senior Manager: Financial Accounting and External Reporting, in drafting of accounting opinions and guidelines/ procedures and ensure correct dissemination and arrange training if required.
Ensures that the General Ledger (GL) is maintained properly, ensure the GL codes and descriptions are valid, meaningful and correctly utilised. Also to ensure transactions are recorded, and classified correctly in the relevant accounts including ensuring that correct GLs are utilised during annual budgets. Also ensures incorrectly posted transactions are timeously reclassified.
Interrogates the transactions and account balances in the GL to ensure they are valid, accurate and are in accordance with IFRS. This role is the custodian of the GL in Transnet Engineering and is the gate keeper of the quality of financial information. The person therefore liaises with multiple stakeholders, in and outside Finance, to ensure this goal is achieved. Obtains adequate cooperation and support from all Finance employees to ensure this requirement is satisfied. Assists Management Accountants during the budgeting process as and when required
Work with the tax professionals and other finance teams to ensure correct recording of transactions.
Ensure financial results are complete, valid and prepared in accordance to IFRS and other related accounting and financial legislation.
On time submission of financial reports and completed templates to Transnet Group Finance and other stakeholders.
Assist in other finance tasks in the department as and when required without limiting scope of work to what is documented above.
Position Outputs
1.Ensure accurate and proper accounting of transactions in the SAP general ledger according to IFRS. Be an expert on SAP General ledger transactions. Interrogates account balances, class of transactions and individual transactions. 2.Evaluate and advise on accounting implications of new/existing transactions. Be the technical accounting expert to be assigned roles by the Senior Manager: Financial Accounting and External Reporting 3.Co-ordinate, consolidate and compile monthly reports and analysis of Transnet Engineering financial results for submission to Transnet Group. 4.Interrogation of financial statements validity and accuracy. 5.Monitor implementation and execution of critical financial reporting controls across TE. 6.Liaison with TE advisory company on - IFRS updates, training on updates if required etc. 7.Prepare complete and accurate financial reports for use by various internal parties – including tax schedules and net working capital.
8.Managing a company's financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems. 9.Attend to auditors and audit queries. Ensure TE is prepared for external audits and receives clean audit reports 10.Liaison with Transnet Group Finance on the Operating Divisions financials and resolution of issues identified after submission of results.
Qualifications and Experience
•CA(SA), CIMA or ACCA qualification. • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a Finance environment. •Experience in a manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
