Position Purpose

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme aims to provide students and recent

graduates with practical workplace experience, allowing them to apply their academic

knowledge in a real-world environment. This programme is designed to enhance participants'

employability by offering hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to industry-specific tasks.

The WIL trainee programme is conducted over a period of 18 months.

 

Position Outputs

• Assist in specific projects within a department or work-stream. • Perform routine operational tasks under supervision. • Support administrative functions, including documentation and reporting. • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs. • Shadow experienced professionals to gain practical insights. • Engage in problem-solving activities to develop analytical skills. • Interact with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to understand business needs. • Provide regular updates on assigned tasks and project progress. • Serve as a central contact point for queries and assistance.

Qualifications and Experience

Matric certificate/equivalent. Completed all theoretical subjects: N6- Office Management. • Must be a South African citizen. • Age between 18- 35. • Preference will be given to People with Disability. • No bursary obligation with another company. • Proof of confirmation / letter from the institution (most recent). • Proof of certified Matric certificate, Academic Record and ID.

Position Purpose

Monitor TP utilities management service systems that include the water, and electrical energy utilization. Monitor the Substations, High Voltage Distribution Networks, depots, and equipment to realize the following:

• Efficient and Effective contracting, distribution, and utilisation of electrical supply;

• Improve Power Factor Correction methods to reduce reactive power wastage;

• Improve Network Availability Reporting to proactively identify electrical distribution network risks and increase the security of electrical supply to satisfy the requirements of the Transnet business strategy

• Reduce electrical expenditure

Monitor Substations and High Voltage Distribution Network compliance with relevant Acts, Standards, Regulations, Codes of Practises through the following;

• Monitor strategies to ensure Compliance with the Electricity Supply Act,

• Ensure Compliance with the OHS Act,

• Monitor Planned Maintenance and report non-conformance issues

• Monitor the implementation of strategic projects for the improvement of the utilities management

• Monitor Life Cycle Asset Management strategies

 

Position Outputs

Investigate / audit electrical installations for issuing accurate utilities bill on a monthly basis; Physically carry out site inspections, troubleshooting and analyze meter data captured Ensure Health and safety policies and regulations are adhered to, as recommend and advise according to electrical regulations and statutory requirements Ensure quality control of workmanship and material by inspections and corrective action Report writing Audit energy saving initiatives Ensure manuals, drawings and documents of utilities and other relevant bulk electrical and water equipment are provided, updated and safely stored Ensure maintenance philosophies (preventive, predictive and breakdown) for the bulk utilities infrastructure are adequately followed. Developing and maintaining maintenance schedules; Record keeping of all documentation including statutory inspections.

Support the assessment and management of risks associated with dependence on non-utility supplier distribution networks, in order to ensure all distribution networks are supplied by recognised utilities suppliers (Municipality/ESKOM) Lead in analysis of Power Factor Correction to reduce wastage from electrical distribution network Support the inter-OD discussion around their loading profiles and providing guidance on solutions to improve impact on efficiency of electrical network Monitor the utilities billing and recovery against identified unavailable networks, to ensure accurate recovery of costs incurred during period where networks were unavailable Lead in identifying, quantifying and reporting on the cost factors that make up the utilities billing from suppliers (Municipality/ESKOM) Monitor compliance with the Electricity and Water Supply Act, by engaging with all relevant stakeholders to monitor utilities management compliance

Support the implementation of relevant modifications to existing High Voltage electrical infrastructure to ensure compliance with Electricity Supply Act Lead the OHS Act 85 3-monthly meetings with relevant stakeholders to identify, prioritise and address risks to the electrical distribution network Contribute accurately to the utilities monthly report Maintain and monitor maintenance activities to obtain a 70%/20%/10% split between Preventative Maintenance/Corrective Maintenance and Unplanned/Emergency Maintenance for all utilities infrastructure

Contribute in the engagements with the Project Management Office on the implementation of strategic utilities management projects Provide technical input to the Project Management Office, with respect to requirements of equipment and material to be used on utilities management projects. This will ensure alignment of projects with long-term utilities strategy initiatives Monitor Life Cycle Asset Management principles and processes, based on asset register Provide support in change management with regards to replacement of old assets and the updating of relevant Life Cycle Asset Management principles

 

Qualifications and Experience

•NQF 6 National Diploma electrical or Mechanical Engineering • At least 3 - 5 years (post training) of relevant electrical/mechanical experience. (High Voltage/Electrical Distribution Networks is recommended). • Trade tested Artisan (Electrical) and Wireman’s license are requirements • Valid Driver’s license code EB. • Prepared to travel long distances in a variety of transport modes • Being away from home for periods of time; • Respond to call outs and willingness to work hours as circumstances and situations require • Project management
