The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is therefore seeking to appoint an efficient and enthusiastic person to undertake the role of: 

 

OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR BLOEMFONTEIN 

PATERSON GRADE: C2 

SALARY TOTAL PACKAGE: R308 375 - Percentile R391 529 

CENTRE: Bloemfontein

Job summary: 

Office Administrator provides comprehensive administrative, financial, governance, and operational coordination support to the Regional Manager. The successful candidate will coordinate regional administrative processes across the Free State and North West Regional offices, ensuring effective business continuity, regulatory compliance, efficient resource coordination, and high-quality service delivery. 

 

Key Responsibilities include: 

·       Coordinate regional administrative and operational support across the Free State and North West Regional Offices. 

·       Coordinate regional procurement planning, contract administration, and resource coordination in accordance with organisational policies. 

·       Support regional budget planning, expenditure monitoring and petty cash administration and reconciliation. 

·       Coordinate administrative activities relating to governance, audit preparation, risk management, business continuity and records management activities. 

·       Prepare, consolidate and submit performance reports, motivations and documentation supporting management and Executive decision-making. 

·       Coordinate logistical arrangements for regional technical operations, meetings, travel training, and fleet tracking. 

·       Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying administrative efficiencies and promoting cost-effective business practices. 

·       Support Occupational Health and Safety compliance and Quality Management System activities. 

·       Facilitate stakeholder communication and maintain productive internal and external relationships. 

 

Required minimum education / training: 

·       Advanced Certificate in Secretarial / Administration (NQF 5), with some marketing diploma, brand management, basic management skills would be beneficial. 

 

Required Minimum work experience: 

·       A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.

SENIOR METEOROLOGICAL TECHNICIAN 

PATERSON GRADE: C1 

SALARY TOTAL PACKAGE: R245 434 - R356 709 

CENTRE: Upington

Job summary: 

The Senior Meteorological Technician provides technical expertise as an Aeronautical Meteorological Observer, as well as maintenance of meteorological instruments assigned to the Upington Weather Office. 

 

Key Responsibilities include: 

Products, Services Delivery / Infrastructure maintenance 

·       Perform timely visual weather Observations as determined by the relevant Weather Office. 

·       Collect Meteorological and climate data and submit reports to the relevant stakeholders. 

·       Install, maintain, and where possible, repair as well as assist with upgrades of weather observation equipment. 

·       Products, Services Delivery / Infrastructure maintenance 

·       Perform timely visual weather Observations as determined by the relevant Weather Office. 

·       Collect Meteorological and climate data and submit reports to the relevant stakeholders. 

·       Install, maintain, and where possible, repair as well as assist with upgrades of weather observation equipment 

 

Innovation, Process Improvement & Revenue Generation 

·       Analysis of available meteorological and climatological data. 

·       Suggest measures to improve data quality and or availability. 

 

Administration, Governance, Risk & Compliance 

·       Promote a culture and practices that reflect the SAWS values 

·       Perform routine office administration practices including lodging claims, leave processing, completion of attendance registers, transport administration, periodic reporting, administration of registers, etc. 

·       Compliance with designated national and international standards. 

·       Maintain the SHEQ (Safety, Health Environment and Quality) system. 

·       Monitor the Risk Register and ensure the implementation of identified risks mitigation actions. 

·       Participate in various o office and regional audits and ensure that all audit findings are addressed. 

·       Manage roster rotations and duty sheets. 

·       Minimal supervisory duties over junior Meteorological Technicians 

·       Assist in developing and implementing SOPs for departmental operations. 

·       Assist with supervising the performance in the absence of Chief Met Tech

Required Minimum Education/Training: 

·       Weather Observers Certificate (NQF Level 5, WMO BIP-MT compliant) 

·       NQF Level 4 or Senior Certificate (with Mathematics and Physical Science) 

·       ICAO AMO competency certificate 

·       Required Minimum Knowledge of ICAO Annex 3 standards 

 

Required Minimum Work Experience: 

·       At least 3 years’ experience within the Meteorological Environment 

·       A code 8 driver’s license
