SARS is looking for a dynamic, highly skilled and experienced individuals, with a high level of enthusiasm, strong planning skills in a fast-paced environment, analytical skills, negotiation skills integrity and confidentiality. We need someone who is passionate about service delivery to manage and ensure effectiveness and efficiency in the operations of Taxpayer Compliance.   

The Junior Debt Collector will report directly to the Ops Manager: Debt Management and will be based in Welkom. He/she will be required to deal with Taxpayers’ and their accounts in a professional manner upholding the SARS Values.

Job Purpose

To effectively apply basic knowledge of understanding of debt collection processes on outstanding debt and returns for CIT, PIT, PAYE, and VAT tax types, through face-to-face, virtual and digital platforms, in line with the relevant South African Tax Laws and SARS policies and procedures within specific turnaround times to deliver on the SARS strategic objectives, thereby ensuring enhanced service delivery and compliance, with full guidance.

 

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required

Higher Certificate (NQF 5) in Taxation or Financial Accounting or Law and 3 years’ experience in a debt collections, finance or law environment.

ALTERNATIVE

Senior Certificate (NQF4) and 4 years’ experience in a debt collections, finance or law environment

Process

  • Communication of transactional outputs and queries in area of work according to policies and quality requirements.

  • Identify cases that require the attention for Account Maintenance.
  • Issue Automated TPA if taxpayer remains non-compliant (no manual TPSs).
  • Issue Final Demand if the taxpayer remains non-compliant including manual Final Demand when applicable.
  • Navigate SARS systems to extract relevant information and execute work on Service Manager in line with allocated work.
  • Prepare and complete Payment Arrangements for requests for Simplified Deferment request (Up to R5M and less than 6 months) within the specified turnaround times.
  • Profile a taxpayer, interpret statement of account, and engage taxpayers with outstanding debt and outstanding returns.
  • Report on transactional and process activities within set guidelines to provide timely information for decision making.

About the Position

An exciting opportunity is available for a energetic, self-motivated, and dynamic Manager in the Eastern Cape Customs Post Clearance Audit (PCA) team within Customs & Excise portfolio. The incumbent will be responsible for providing steward leadership and ensuring that Customs Compliance processes are executed with Customs & Excise legislation. Furthermore, the applicant must be able to work under pressure, have zero tolerance for corruption, be available to work flexible operational hours and remain professional in dealing with both internal and external stakeholders.

 

Job Purpose

To formulate tactical strategy and associated delivery plans related to a single practice area, by leading and managing an audit team to ensure effectiveness of audit operations across multi tax types, ensuring practice integration and operational implementation through the achievement of Audit objectives.

 

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualification & Experience Required 

Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF Level 7) in an audit-related field, with 8–10 years' experience in a Customs Audit environment, of which 3–4 years at junior management level.

ALTERNATE:

Senior Certificate (NQF 4) and 15 years related experience in a Customs Audit environment, of which 3 - 4 years at a junior management level.

 

Note: The alternative qualifications and experience refer to the internal minimum requirements (internal staff of SARS).

  • Accompany auditors in interaction and engagement with Taxpayers, where required.
  • Act as the bottom-line drivers of tactical implementation within the context of business unit excellence and performance improvement.
